Bennett was outstanding at both ends tonight. His play up high on Janko’s 2nd goal was great!

Wet Blanket time? I can see opposing D starting to look for that wide pass to Jagr and he normally gets called on plays like the one where he was double teamed on the O-zone and during the battle for the puck the Yotes player fell. Glad the refs viewed it as a hockey play and not an infraction.

Johnny and Monny got sat quite a bit in the 3rd. GG not happy as Htudey kept referencing?
Ferly was a beast and got some extra time with Bennett and Janko so that’s cool.
Johnny and Monny aren’t gonna hold Ferly back!

Fun game! No Gaffs from Brodie!

Yay Flames win! Awesome to see Smith get the shutout against the team that is still paying him.

From what I saw the Flames were dominant and could have scored twice as many. The Yotes were horrible other than the occasional bit of pressure from their top line.

Aaron Vickers @AAVickers
Smith on shutting out Arizona: “I owe a lot to that organization. They took a chance on me when I was kind of bumping around there and really hadn’t found my way yet. I became a No. 1 goalie there in Arizona. I owe a lot to them, but obviously it feels good to beat them."

Aaron Vickers @AAVickers
Smith (cont): "The shutout’s a bonus, but the way we beat them was a lot more rewarding for me. I think the last time I shutout the Coyotes was my first game in the NHL. It’s been a long time since I did that.”

Aaron Vickers @AAVickers
Smith (cont): "I stressed the importance of the game in the preseason and that was kind of the emotional game where it was the first time I played against my former team. That was a game where I was like, ‘yeah, I should play that one.'"

Thought Bennett had a strong game, which was good to see. I've said it before - but I think Bennett - Jankowski - Jagr is going to be an important line for us this season.

Interesting to see that Bennett is currently shooting a putrid 2.9%, whereas his career average is closer to 12%. I know it wouldn't add much, but another 3 goals would put Bennett up to 9 points in 25 games, which, as a 3rd liner is pretty decent.

Darren Haynes @DarrenWHaynes
Glen Gulutzan in a good mood tonight. Asked if Mark Jankowski is up to stay: "We like to keep him hungry so we're going let him stay in the hotel for a little while," he said with a laugh.

Then he got serious. "I've watched enough young players, I don't see him going anywhere."

Decent game. Sloppy first period for both clubs. Flames tightened up in the second and third. Liked the 2nd, 3rd and 4th lines tonight and thought the 1st line was a bit lazy. (To be fair: they might have been a bit pi**ed off at having a lot of previous efforts wiped out by others' lazy play....). The D was pretty solid - not too many gaffes and not too many giveaways in front of the net.

Not a pretty game, but a win is a win.

Jankowski on his between-the-legs goal: “My only play, I guess, was to bring it through my legs back to the other side. It’s something you practice in warm-up and practice in case you have to use it, but I didn’t feel like I had to go through the legs. Instincts took over.”
