It's not just the team that starts slow but key players like Monahan and Giordano have habits of not playing well in Oct/Nov. I would say given the fact the goaltending is a little unknown and slow starts are a known that 4-5-1 is fair which I would actually be happy about if one of the wins came in the opener. It's tough to come out with a quick start when your team is largely devoid of quick starters.

You hit the nail right on the head. For as long as I can remember the flames carrying the heaviest load always come out slow in October. Iggy's nickname was Mr. November for a reason. If our best players come out hungry, starting tonight, then they have a hope of at least a break even October, which would show as a major improvement come April.

Except Monahan is looking pretty good so far. Seems to score in every game.

He was on the ice for 4 out the 5 Jets goals. Puts a damper on his highlight-level goal.

You mean all the powerplay goals? How's he doing at even strength?

I'm chalking up all this negativity to our prairie cynicism, 'no good thing ever came to an optimist.' LOL

Flames will be sick of hearing about the all conquering Oilers and their dusty trophy cabinet. I think they'll make a statement early.

I'll throw in my 2 cents since it didn't specify in the title Flames.

I expect the Jets to go 6-1-3, and expectations in Winnipeg to ramp up finally.

My gut tells me that the Jets will go 3-5-2 and the Jet fan base to become rabid with fury and people FINALLY reach for pitch forks and torches.

For Flames I expect them to be around 4-4-2 ish

Way to find a way to turn that one into negative. Picking one game, I'm guessing mostly pp goals against too? Why do you even follow the Flames? Is it some weird masochistic obsession?

Hard to say right now.

If Smith plays well in the opener, the sky's the limit.

If the first goal is along the ice right through the wickets, the Flames are in deep trouble.

This season is all about goaltending.

Isn't every?

4-6 my guess.

Even pessimists can love the Flames and hockey.

At least if its a slow start beer prices are reasonable and sorrow can be drowned :

2-0-8 and I'm fine with this because the 2 wins are Oilers and Ducks
