There's nowhere in America I'd rather be than Washington DC.... but there's nowhere in the world I'd rather be than Calgary.

I have a cousin who's a major globe trotter, she says Calgary smells better than any other city in the world.

We get lots of clean fresh air blowing in from the mountains. Calgary is pretty great, gotta say.

Because it doesn't have a smell.

They loved the tour of Calgary. She commented on how it reminded her of Sweden. The cleanliness and friendliness of the people. How the style of the city was very modern, and felt safe everywhere. Then they went to the mountains and were blown away at how amazing the Rockies are.
It was a great feeling to hear this. I often drive to work and go home each day and I don’t take the time to appreciate all we have. The bike tour was awesome for me as it really got me thinking how clean, safe and amazing this city is.
I know in the winter this place can be dark and cold, but in the summer it is probably one of the best cities in the world to live.

One of my favorite things to do is stop and talk to tourists looking at a map of downtown Calgary. I will always make sure to ask them if they need help to find something specific. I want people to feel welcome and safe here and nothing purpetuates that more than having somebody say "can I help you find something" when their face is buried into a confusing map.

Watch out Calgary we are catching up. Sydney is spending $1B to knockdown and rebuild two 25 year old football stadiums. You better get your arena built soon or be prepared to eat our dust next year!
Seriously though, these lists are fun for discussion but it is hard to take them seriously. I noticed they gave Sydney a perfect 100 for infrastructure for example. When it is taking me 45 minutes to drive the 6km home from work the last thing on my mind is how perfect our infrastructure is. Also, I'd much rather live in Sydney over Melbourne for the beaches and weather alone and I have to laugh a bit at Adelaide in the top 10 of anything.

Your cousin clearly hasn't had the pleasure of the sudden blast of garbage odor on a hot Bangkok night.

Why isn’t Edmonton on the list with their new taller than anything in Calgary tower?

The top ten appeared in the banner of the UAE's Khaleej Times newspaper today. There might be a lot of these types of rankings but clearly this one is highly regarded.
Made me proud to see a little thumbnail of home on the newspaper at Starbucks this morning!

The funniest list is MoneySense, because of the consideration it gives to cost of living, resulting in places where nobody wants to live being highly rated.

Maybe they do recognize there is a big difference between Edmonton and Calgary and that's why Edmonton doesn't make the list.

Yeah. He essentially answered his own question of why Edmonton was snubbed. Really the inferiority complex will never go away until they realize Edmonton is more like Winnipeg than Calgary and accept it.
