4x4?

That's absolutely hilarious! I like Russell but man, well done. Milk the Oilers for all they've got, Kris!

Term is questionable for sure, but its really not an overpay situation for him.

The Oilers need him badly and he will be playing huge minutes.

He is a #3 dman on that club when Sekera isn't playing.

To clarify, you're correct abour Russell. I was thinking about the cap hell the Oilers are going to be in a year and the troubles they will have keeping all of their players.

I like Russell and would run far away from that deal.

Kris Russell is a top 2 defenseman, but Subban is not.

Remember that.

It would be funny if we signed Stone for less than Russell signs for.

It's an overpayment but at least this coming season he is worth the money given that he had his moments last season. Long term it's not a great deal. It's kind of like the Brouwer deal where you really have to put effort into convincing yourself that it's not a bad deal. Unfortunately the reality may not be so kind.

It could be shaping up that way.

Or Stone now asks for a stupid amount because the market is set. Would make sense considering the stupid asks for Tanev/Hamonic.

So does said "insider" now have credibility with his Flames rumor?

He did say "lightning in a bottle." Clearly he and others here are not so naive as to presume that this is now a legitimate source. It is fun to hope for the worst for the Oilers, and even without a NMC a 4x4 for Kris Russell is still a highly overpriced contract.

Not to burst your bottle, but he actually said lightning in a bucket.

I somehow get the feeling the 2018/19 Oilers will carry a 20 man roster, have no alternates up full time with the team, and eventually have to dress 17 players in a game due to Injury/Cap issues. All while still dressing one of the weakest d-cores in the league.

a 30 year old d-man who has played 20+ minutes the last 4 seasons and has 9 playoff series in his 10 year career... 6 in his last 3 years as a top-4 d-man.

His contract will be over when he is 34. That is the age that Gio is this fall when he starts the last 5 years of his 6.75M NTC.

I like Russell.
And If you are trying to point out what a bargain Gio is relative to Russell's salary, I agree.
