On a +35 contract? I will be surprised if it is close to $3.0 m.

It was just an example, I went high and low, anyways, like I said we might have been able to do better, not likely and maybe not at an acceptable price.
We cant complain really, we got through this, like I said, fairly unscathed.
We didnt gain any assets or ditch any liabilities, we kind of just skated through, its fine, obviously it could have been better and management is comfortable with the current makeup of the team.
Sometimes doing nothing is doing something, but a lot of people came to like him as a player, but thats the way this sport goes.

And the Flames are deeper than the Oilers, given Vegas took a future career AHLer from them.

Sure but the Flames would have had to pay to get Vegas to take on one of those contracts and the org seems to be low on picks already as it is. Mgmt doesn't hate Brouwer like fans do and this is best case scenario for the expansion draft.
Hopefully no Wideman UFA contracts are given out to fill the holes on defence.

The good news about this is that Treliving can now get to work signing Versteeg and Stone without having to worry about this ####ing draft again.

Stone: $3.75 CH
Bennett: $2.75 CH
Ferland: $2.0 CH
Lazar: $1.5 CH
Chiasson: $1.75 CH
Leaves about $7.75 in space, with obviously some lower cap hit RFAs to deal with, potentially Chad Johnson resign and a bottom six UFA F. Going to be tight

Its over 2M for sure in Vegas...and there is no way he takes less than 3M to stay in Calgary IMO
Teams are giving up first rounders plus to protect their players....Flames lost a 3M UFA 5th defenceman who was gone anyway

Wow, I am surprised Vegas would waste a pick on Engelland. Since he is a UFA and lives in Las Vegas I thought there was a better than 50/50 he would end up signing there anyway.
Guess it shows how much we overvalue some of our prospects (Kulak, Porier, Shinkaruk) if Vegas takes a pass on them over a UFA

Yes, it's not just the cap either; it's the number of one-way contracts we have and the need to makes some space for guys like Jankowski, Hathaway (who probably wants a one-way), Kulak and Andersson to play.

unless they are looking at Versteeg I don't think they need to go looking for a UFA forward. likely add Jankowski to the list. they will need a backup G and 2 more D

wow...
Thrilled if this is true... calgary loses a guy that most likely would have been on the move on July 1 anyways?
this was probably my second most hoped for outcome (with Brouwer being picked up as the best).
Really hope we are able to lock up Stone now in that #4 slot and he worked pretty well with TJB...

Stone and Bennett are about right. I don't see Ferland making more than 1.5 and Lazar more than 1.1. Chiasson will probably allowed to walk if he wants more than 1.2.
Hopefully the Flames can find a way to move Bouma/Stajan to allow room for some guys to come up and play. We have to see what we have in Janko + Shinkaruk + Hathaway + Klimchuk + Poirier. Can't do that if we leave them all in Stockton.

Yeah any forward they add other than Versteeg has is via trade with salary going the other way
Season doesn't start tomorrow, much more to come

Does it really?
http://www.calgarypuck.com/2016/08/2...kings-summary/
Calgarypuck rated Shinkaruk our 7th best prospect. So pretty meh. Combine that with his waiver status and you can see he's not that valuable.
Calgarypuck rated Poirier our 8th best prospect. And that's before he left the farm team and missed most of the year. He'd probably be in the mid teens when we re-rank this summer.
Kulak was rated our 12th best prospect. So pretty meh. Combine that with his waiver status and you can see he's not that valuable.
So do we really overvalue them? I'd argue we never valued them THAT highly to begin with and their waiver status makes them even less valuable.
