In scoring chances and possession they were quite dominant.
Sadly doesn't matter if they don't score though.

I can't really blame them for Elliott turning into a potato.

They really didn't. They, much like most of the team, were better than the Ducks. It's painfully obvious just how badly the goaltending lost us that series.

At least it doesn't sound like they're contemplating any potentially franchise-destroying changes.
They're happy enough with the core and I'd say they seem to expect that if the team puts in the work that they can go deeper next year. Expectations next year will be higher.
My main takeaway is that the organization thinks that the sucking part of the rebuild is over and they will try to contend with the core they have now and build long term success around them.

I love when BT says that the biggest growth/improvement has to come internally. Sounds like they hammer that home to the core all the time too.
Sure they need to plug some holes, certain ones bigger than the others, but most of the core of this team is already in place and as long as Monahan/Backlund/Bennett/Gaudreau/Tkachuk/Brodie/Giordano/Hamilton continue to improve and get better this team is going to be a force for several years here.

He was more general.
Paraphrasing, he said there were some shots they could have scored on and some saves they felt they should have had.
He also stated that the goaltending was a big reason that they got to the playoffs and that Elliott was the first to admit that he had to be better in the playoffs.

I actually really like that line's performance. I was pleasantly surprised since I thought the Kesler line was going to dominate them. I also thought they were the most dangerous line we had and felt like if a goal was to be scored, it was going to be from them. I think for such a young line, they played admirablly and hopefully they grow even more next year and become a truly elite line.

thanks for this...
i thought that line did pretty decently during the series, but with all the posters saying the contrary on the GDTs, i wasn't sure if i was missing something that they were seeing...
just no finish except on the pp i guess....
3rd season for BT, second playoff appearance; 1st year for GG and a 17point improvement and a playoff appearance...
I see no reason to blow up anything as this stage...

That's true re Elliott.
But it did not help that their 5 v 5 shooting % was 0 (that's zero).

Can someone do a recap at some point? I tried the link but it's just player interviews.

Treliving talking about Gaudreau on radio. I always felt that on the PP Johnny is better on the right side. During the World Cup he was dynamite there. Glulutzan had him on the left side on PP and it seemed he didn't create as much.
But they did score at a good clip during playoffs, so what do I know.

All this time, I never even thought about moving Johnny to RW full-time.
I know you're just talking about the PP, but I wonder what [Tkachuk] [Monahan] [Gaudreau] would look like 5v5?

Elliott crapped the bed in the playoffs, but other than in game 3(in which 2 of the goals shouldn't have counted) he never cost his team the games all together. Game 4 he let in 1 goal and we scored 1 goal, you aren't going to win a lot of games only scoring 1 goal.
|
I also wouldn't mind this, because it tells the team that they're not blaming the season on goaltending. Getting a whole new set of tenders will subconsciously make the players and coach believe that the season's failure (relative of course) wasn't on them. Elliott certainly didn't help things but 2 even strength goals in 4 games is just not good enough, and I really hope the players and coaching staff realize that.

It's a different story if Elliott was great all season and fell apart in 2 playoff games.
He had an inconsistent season, looking awful and great and the playoff performance suggests you can't count on him. For instance Flames can't have yet another horrible start next year. I'm not sure this team could handle the associated pressure given expectations will be higher.

I think if it wasn't for that extra 3rd, I might be alright giving Elliott another shot. But like Strange Brew said, it'd be a different story if he was consistent and then had a few bad moments in the playoffs. Sadly that wasn't the case, each goalie had an amazing streak each then were below average the rest of the year.
Now how much of that depended on the hole in the #4 dman spot for the first half of the season remains to be seen, but still, I don't think you chance bringing either back
