I think Darryl should join RSN or HNIC panels. I would love to hear his opinions on week to week NHL news as while he's a little gruff he's very witty. Him going head to head with Kypreos on league matters would be gold.

God Damn It This Is A Wonderful Idea!

I think he is a great coach, top 5 in the league. But he is also hard to play for and the message starts to fall on deaf ears. Not surprised by this in the least.
I think he can write his own ticket here. If he wants to coach he will but I see him taking time on his decision. There are a number of teams that could use him to get over the hump.
Darryl is 58. Who would blame him if he decided to take a break or retire?
That's for sure.
I'd be very picky if I were him. I don't know if Darryl would like to coach out east, or if there is an eastern team that would appreciate his style (Islanders/Devils?), but I think the less travel a team playing the style that L.A. does (did) may stand a better chance out east.
Even with Quick and Doughty, I think it says a lot that Darryl could win two cups playing a hard, physical game with the travel L.A. has.

I still remember in 2004 him sitting in with Don Cherry I believe when we had San Jose on the ropes. The s**t eating grin on both their faces were priceless.
He always is a beauty on TV. Lots of people think he isn't that smart due to his delivery until they listen to him. The guy is a brilliant mind and a great human being.
Not sure if he has weekly material, but a check in with Darryl from time to time would be awesome.

reminds me of Roger Millions and darryl a couple years later at the trade deadline.
R. Millions: "So Darryl, what are the prospects of you making a trade by tomorrow?"
What I can say is that they aren't under-qualified and no one would know that team better than they would. Particularly what it is that's preventing them from being better than they have been. In no way does that make them the best possible candidates much like just because they played there would disqualify them.
Oh okay, sorry, I wasn't aware this was such a nuanced topic.
Can you please clarify or expand then? Do you think this is a good move or a bad move overall? Or no opinion? Just trying to figure out where you stand since this is a message board overall and people have these things called opinions. Which is the entire purpose of a message board.
haha I am sure I saw the goalposts over there, but now they're over here.
I'm sorry what am I missing here?
Do you (apparently, not sure) agree with transplant that even though they are rookies in team management that they are the right people for the job, or not?
It's not super clear. I was presuming his assumption that they aren't exactly rookies meant that he understood this hire and it made sense to him.
To me it's idiotic, considering these two men built 2 Stanley Cup winning teams and it seems like change for the sake of change and then picking popular players as management but maybe that's just me.
I thought Darryl wanted to retire to the farm and Lombardi had to convince him to come back this season. I think he's done with hockey for the next while. It's not like he's short of money or hasn't accomplished more than most coaches ever will.

this is such a good idea. I'd take it one step further, he should replace Cherry as part of the "coach's corner' segment!
