Iginla has looked like one of the only Kings who gives a damn since being traded there.
A ton of heart, grit and leadership in addition to having an elite shot.
I think the issues with his skating are exaggerated, and he's showing he can still play another year if he wants.
All in all he's been making New Era's angry rants look like hot air.
He's still got it.

He would be an upgrade over both Versteeg and Brouwer combined. Bring him home.

It's most certainly not uncomfortable or sad watching Iginla play hockey right now. It's almost inconceivable to me that someone could be a strong Flames fan and not have a ton of respect for Iginla and remain a fan of the player. That in no way diminishes ones passion for the current team.

Iggy "wins" the fight because he cut the other guy above the eye, meanwhile wearing a visor
Pretty tough to base your decision on that...Big E probably would have caught him a few times too if half his face wasn't covered

People trying to definitively judge the winner of a fight that close are out to lunch.
There was no clear winner or loser in that one. A lot of holding, both guys landed it spots etc.
Good tilt between two tough, respectable guys. I thought Iggy edged it, but no way to declare a sure winner / loser.

I actually think the cut may have been caused by the visor.
Kind of looked like the visor caught him there when their heads came close together.
Image of it below is a still of the spot of the fight I noticed it - edge of Iggy's visor was line up perfectly with where Engelland was cut.

Yeah but what can you do? There's nothing wrong with wanting to protect ones eyes, ask Bryan Berard.
It's the NHL's fault for instituting the stupid penalty rule for discarding your helmet in a fight.
I mean do we criticize Ferland for not taking his helmet off when he fought Bieksa? The rules are the rules. They take their helmet off, they get an extra penalty and the team suffers for it.
The problem is the rule. I know why the NHL put it in there, but even with the rule in place, guys still lose their helmet during a fight.
The NHL even put in the rule that the fighters can't agree to knock each others helmets off first prior to throwing punches.
They might as well just ban fighting.

It was a good fight, two tough men going at it. Don't give a rats ass about the cuts, they both had one and they were from helmets/visors. About a close of a fight as you can get with both guys chucking.
I thought Iginla was very good last night and there is definitely still gas in the tank. Not sure he can keep up with some of the faster teams in the league over 82 games but LA seems like a good fit for him. Slower more grinding style. I think he is back next year.

Yeah, I guess his goal total stands out to me more this year because they don't score much.
Point still stands, their forward group is lacking overall offensively. They are obviously still a good defensive group.

He seems to be able to score on Edmonton still too. There's value in that.

Speaking of stupid rules the NHL has implemented regarding fighting, how nice was it to see Iggy and Engelland actually given the opportunity to square each other up and go rather than going full trench warfare as soon as the gloves came off?

back in the day, i remember Iggy taking off his helmet and having his opponent do the same... i think it was a playoff game vs the wings in 2004...
anyways, pretty cool
nowadays, the NHL doesn't allow that because of major injuries that have resulted in junior from kid's heads hitting the ice...
the visor does afford extra protection, but I don't think Iggy ever cared whether someone else has a visor or not...not like he targets people to fight if they don't have a visor

Won't happen. I asked Burke at a luncheon if the Flames considered Iggy at the deadline and he said no and when pressed Burke indicated that Iginla did not want to return. That ship has sailed even though I would like to have him back

Two never-have-beens and one has-been?
That's your idea of an NHL caliber line?

You think Brouwer, Versteeg, and whoever is on that 3rd line is any better on most nights? You can dis Iggy all you want, but we can agree that none of those three currently on the Flames will ever match what Iggy has provided with his time as a Flames and on other teams. It's funny that the Flames has-been is still one of the best players still playing the game. No one expects Iggy to play on the first two or even third line on any team. But damn, don't dis a legend, man. It's like dissing Gordie Howe for all that he achieved in his long wonderful career.
