The Preds can probably lose the rest of the way and still make the playoffs... but it is better for the league if they and St Louis can pick up enough points to help LA crowd the wildcard slots. I mean, it is best for the NHL if Calgary pushes Edmonton out of the top 3 in the Pacific, and then out of the playoffs.

Wings slowly picking up their game though.

Similar to last night. Roping the dope that is Edmonton.

I hadn't looked at the Avs cap situation/future going forward until tonight. Holy hell are they in trouble.

They're paying Eric Johnson $6 million a year until 2023 for starters. Jesus H. Christ. And people bitch about the Giordano contract.

After MacKinnon, Duchene, and Landeskog, the best forward they have is possibly the young Mikko Rantanen who will be a sophomore and just 21 years old.

They decided to pay Carl Soderberg almost $5 million a year for another 3 years, and he's been downright horrible this year, being a relatively frequent healthy scratch.

They're going to be paying Blake Comeau and Joe Colborne $2.5 million again next year for their wonderful play.

Can you imagine how bad that team will be next year if they trade away Duchene and Landeskog for picks and prospects? They're going to make the Golden Knights look like the stanley cup champs with an expansion roster.

They don't have a salary larger than $2 million coming off the books next year. Good news is that they have about $20 million in cap space to find some good players in the off-season, but if signing Soderberg to nearly $5 million per year is any indication, they're going to waste that cap space pretty quickly.

They have almost nothing coming down the pipe either:
-Tyson Jost is undersized and still a couple years away.
-Calvin Pickard is already in the NHL, and isn't exactly standing on his head.
-JT Compher is a nice player, but hardly assured of even being in the top 6.

There are a couple of intriguing defense prospects in Bigras and Boikov, but they're far from a sure bet to make the NHL.

That team is in such terrible shape it's shocking. That's coming from someone who's been watching the Panthers.

Looks like that day off yesterday for the Canucks was just what Dr. Recchi ordered.

Detroit gives up a late period goal. 2-1 for the greasers.

Looked like another Drew Doughty temper tantrum after that Hank Sedin goal.
