If Shattenkirk re-signs in WSH OR plays 50 per cent of WSH playoff games in 1st 2 rounds and Caps advance to third, STL gets 2019 2nd rder.

Another trade invoking the "Russell clause". I wonder if that was Treliving's idea last year or Jim Nill's? Either way, it seems to be quite popular now...

#stlblues receive 7th rd pick if #Caps trade Shattenkirk on/before Jul 1. If return to WSH is 4th Rd or better, STL get WSH pick 2 rds later
Frank Seravalli @frank_seravalli
e.g. If WSH trades Shattenkirk for 3rd round pick on or before July 1, #stlblues get #caps' next available 5th round pick.
bad trade for the Blues
late first in a weak draft; conditional pick 3 drafts away and minor league filler for the player touted as the best rental piece this deadline
Army's gotta go

If neither event happens, what will happen to this pick? Nothing, or does it decrease to a lower pick?

So, it's Shattenkirk + Copley for Sanford + Malone + 1st + Conditional 2nd + Conditional (n + 2, n < 4)th + Conditional 5th + Conditional 7th.
I don't see where you are getting your 5th from...that was an example and also technically in the scenario where Shattenkirk is traded again, Washington would receive the "nth" pick. Otherwise the n+2 and 7th drop off

I see. Fixed

^ Considering the rumored/speculated returns of the previous trades that were kiboshed by Shattenkirk not agreeing to a contract extension (Hall from Edmonton and Johnson from Tampa), Shattenkirk might have done a huge favour for the Flames in terms of playoffs.
