That's EXACTLY what this team needs.

I would rather have Bouwer or Versteeg....
Unfortunately he is too slow to be effective on regular strength.
Sure he could be used on the Powerplay.

Ask the players first. If Gio thinks it would be a bad idea, I wouldn't. With a young team like this, you don't want any "division" in the room. If the leadership on the team was ok with it, I'd try but Iggy would have to know that he's coming in as a Lanny 2.0
This would be one of the only times I'd ask the players because I wouldn't want Iggy to come in and assume he's the leader or for others to. I can't see it being an issue but I would talk it over with a couple of the players first.
If it was an Iggy for Wideman deal then I'd say why not but they'd have to take Chiasson too lol.

i'm sorry I must have missed it.
Can you show me the frequency of either Brouwer or Versteeg efforts to stand up for teammates?
Because when I watch games I see the team get pushed around by Edmonton, Anaheim, Minnesota, etc.

I'm not sure how effective he is anymore, but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't be excited to see it happen. Don't think Iggy would want to come back though.
|
This would do nothing for the team.....at least add someone that can provide some significant help down the stretch if you're going to do anything at all.

But now we have centermen! We've fixed the problems. It'll work. We'll make it work. I'll be better baby. I promise.

Adding Iginla would give this team some crazy momentum I think going into the last stretch here.

It wouldn't be a wise move IMO...unless it's just to play a few games and retire.

If it was for cheap why the heck not. Guy still competes, would be a crowd fav, and could maybe play up and down the lineup. There's a lot of passion in that guy, and maybe he helps kick some of these guys in the arse. He's not the missing piece of the puzzle though.
Why would he WANT to come here is the question. We're barely a playoff team, we're going to play one of the top 4 WC teams if we get in, meaning chances are we aren't making it out of the first round. If I'm Iginla I come here as a last resort. Better choice is SJ/An/Minn/Mon/Pitt.
I'm actually waiting for the collective meltdown when he goes to Edmonton......lol

maybe, however the comparison is with Iginla
Only way he could help the Flames is if he could play on one of the top 3 lines. Would he be an upgrade over the Brouwer or Versteeg... I doubt it.
Are there other options for the Flames.... sure I would much rather see them pursue higher end winger that could be an asset in the playoffs not an older player who would most likely spend time in the press box as a healthy scratch.

No. If the debate is whether he is better than Chiasson or Brouwer, it isn't worth it. We don't need more of those guys. The powerplay is already decent, and if we need a boost, play more Tkatchuk.

Whether we acquire Iggy or not, I can't wait until the deadline passes so we can end these multiple discussions and threads

Huh?
As for the OP, I think Iginla would be amazing with JG and Monahan. And as others have said and if you've watched the Av's lately, Iginla is not slow.. he's not fast but he's average in speed ATM. His defensive game is as good if not better than Chiasson's and Brouwer is garbage on the PP IMO and Iginla would be the solution there.
If Iginla is having a tough time on the top line, drop him to play with Ferland and Bennett on the 3rd line for 5vs5. And you know he would be sticking up for JG in the playoffs. It's what Iggy does!
The above or moved to SJ is what I would like to see.. but Edmonton? Eldrickonice.. you're brutal man.

Momentum can be everything in this sport, especially in the playoffs. You do this because the upside is huge, the cost is negligible.

I said at the start of the year when this topic was brought up that it would be a ridiculous idea and moves made just out of sentimentality are not smart ones. Many things would have needed to line up for this to make legitimate sense.
1. Colorado would have to be terrible - check
2. Calgary would need to be in a serious playoff push - check
3. Iginla would have to be having a down season personally to limit acquisition cost - check
4. Iginla would have to be willing to waive NMC - check (from what we hear)
Now that those factors are in play, it's not such an outlandish idea anymore. However, we still have to remove the "Iggy" factor from the equation. Every possible upgrade to the team must be looked at, and if the Flames find themselves in need of a 39 year old winger with 8 goals and can't get a better/cheaper (value wise) upgrade, then this might actually make sense and I wouldn't be upset about the team making this trade for sentimental reasons.

The irrational Iginla fanboy in me says yes.
I also don't want him to be an Oiler.
Actually this is very rational

Only concern in my mind is the fans expecting the old Iggy to suddenly appear. If the fanbase can erase their collective memories and accept that Iginla has lost a step since leaving then I'd be all fo rit -- for the right price, of course.
Wideman + pick for Iginla -- don't think Wideman will waive the NMC for Colorado, though. Think he'd rather go to a playoff team in the East.

If there's even the slightest chance that Iginla could score the game winning, Stanley Cup sealing goal for the Flames that would make grown men weep like children going to Disney land, I think we have to take it.
Logistics be damned! I want to chant Iggy Iggy Iggy when he comes back.
