I'd imagine he would be, if the trade call goes through.

Stone had been scratched for the 'Yotes' game against Anaheim tonight. Guess we know why.

Don't hate it if he doesn't get Kris Russelled into being coach's pet ahead of Dougie.

I haven't seen him play, but his PIM doesn't suggest he's very physical.

Interview from Coyotes TV at the end of last season.

I don't like this for the Flames. Either the Flames are moving to a 4-4-1 protection model, which is dumb for a player like Stone, or they risk being penalized by the league for trying to sign Stone after the expansion league.

I don't mind the Flames going to a 4-4-1 model, but I only support it if it's for a legit top 4 defenseman like Barrie or someone who makes losing a guy like Frolik worth it.

He's good in the community. Brian Burke and the organization really appreciate that.

Cheap cost of acquisition. I'm okay with this.
Now to thin out the herd and get some feedback help. Hoping for more skill in the top 9.

Was just about to reply with the exact same sentiment.

This is some pretty far reaching speculation. Stone controls his own destiny - he doesn't have to sign with Vegas any more than he has to sign with us. Fact is, Stone has connections to Calgary already - so if he signs here, there's no grounds for penalization unless there are hard facts.

Flames won't be changing who they protect based on a UFA d-man.

He's not Robyn Regehr or anything but he is 6'3" 210 and his 2.2 hits per game put him 27th in the league for d-men.

Honestly I would say he's a similar d-man to Erik Gudbranson, and the Canucks had to give up McCann and a 2nd for him.

This also necessitates another roster transaction, correct?

Or they don't protect him at all and the get a top 4 dman to play through the final stretch of games as opposed to Wideman or Engelland with Brodie. A 3rd in a terrible draft is not a crazy price to pay for a rental.

Any team in the league can try and sign Stone after the expansion draft and July 1. You're concerned for no reason. There's also no chance this signals a choice to protect 4 defencemen.

He put up 36 points last season. Even if he was with OEL, it's ok because now he'll be with Brodie.

I sure hope he can play with Brodie!

3rd round pick for a serviceable veteran RH defenceman? Bargain.

Bartkowsi – Engelland could prove to be a decent 3rd pairing. Jok & Wideman should enjoy the view from the press box.

Also if his wife and family are from here, just had twins, and they want to live in Calgary, then I'm pretty sure a handshake agreement for a contract that won't be signed until after the expansion draft wouldn't seem out of the question.

I'm kinda surprised we didn't try to ship them Smid in the deal as well - just to get out from under the LTIR room.

One of Bart, Wides, and Kevin will likely go down. Or maybe Hathaway/Freddie.

Except for one gaffe I thought Bartkowski looked pretty good in his debut.

As much as I'd like to see Wideman go down, it looks like Bartkowski will be heading to the heat.
