I also wouldn't mind seeing Engelland being given some more ice time on the second pair with Brodie. The whole thing is working with what we've got, especially in crunch time as the playoffs get closer, and even more so if we can't land a middle pair guy of some kind around the deadline. Engelland is decidedly better defensively than Wideman (his offensive instincts are arguably better than Wideman too at this point, as he'll make a smart play rather than blasting the puck at a guy's shins two thirds of the time). Engelland doesn't need to put up points, that's what Brodie would do, so it only makes sense having a solid stay at home guy with him allowing him more offensive freedom, something that Brodie thus far hasn't had a whole lot of chance to do, playing with Wideman. I simply don't feel comfortable having Wideman getting that much ice time should we make the playoffs, perhaps he could step his game up a gear again in the playoffs, but I don't see much suggesting that he could.

Colorado is a tricky trade partner because they're going to try and squeeze maximum value out of their few good pieces. I'm sure they'll require a hefty return for Zadorov... and don't forget that he'd have to be protected in the expansion draft.

True, but then why not just make the trade with Colorado in the summer? Zadorov is a pretty good piece, I think it would take a lot to convince McPhee not to take him.

The expansion draft really ties BT hands in bringing in any D man with term. I hate expansion.

You can't just give them something, you're allowed to trade them something but they have to agree to it. So if you have a fourth D-man you have to offer them enough to deter them, so think about that nightmare of a D-man acquisition...

You pay top dollar at the trade deadline to acquire them, then you basically have to offer ANOTHER trade package to keep him a couple months later. A GM should be fired immediately if that's an actual plan they carry out.

Or look at it another way, the Dman in question has to be worth "Trade package" + Frolik, who is the player you need to expose if you make a deal.
