I don't know how a double of the envelope happens, but someone's gonna have to answer for that mistake.

Everytime I watch the Oscars, about halfway through I start to wonder: "why the hell do I watch the Oscars?"

Finally that question has been answered.

FWIW was disappointed when it was La La Land. Thought Moonlight was far and away a better picture. Feel bad for all the poor buggers who probably feel like tits after that debacle though.

I heard there were 3 million illegal votes from non academy members, mostly minorities.

Oh great...I'm already seeing homophobic and racist comments on Facebook about Moonlight winning and the Hollywood propaganda machine.

God it sucks to be alive right now.

Happy for Moonlight, like Cali Panther Fan said it's a win for the art form of cinema for movies like that to win... I really enjoyed it but I can understand it's not for everyone.

Moonlight was indeed fantastic. Can't argue with that win, and I also loved La La Land.

Yea, but could you imagine mix-up went the other way?

To be fair, any of the movies nominated for best picture for the last 20 years almost unanimously meet that criteria.

Saw someone mention on twitter (can't find link now) that there are duplicates of each envelope, one for each side of the stage. So somehow the second envelope for Best Actress was given to Beatty.

Yeah, you usually see the winners with the envelopes when they do their interviews.

The envelope Beatty had did say "Actress in a Leading Role", so it was the wrong envelope, not just the wrong card in the right envelope...

I'm the opposite when it comes to award winning films. I want to see them as a result, regardless of subject.

To each his own though.

Sounds like it was some unlucky guy from PWC. Thankfully they didn't do the lame thing where the envelope guys come out on stage for some lame bit and plug for their firm while handcuffed to their briefcase.

This way at least the offending person gets to remain somewhat anonymous for now.

Why do you let people's comments on awards show dictate how you feel about being alive.

these are the kind of films the Oscars often favor...which is fine and expected based on who is voting

As it should be.

I mean, if we all 'got it' and 'loved it' then there would be no artistic expression!

Apparently I need to watch this movie. Mahershala Ali is about as interesting as sawdust in House of Cards, I want to see how he pulled off an Oscar.

I recommended Moonlight in the recommend a movie thread back in October and as I said in that thread, it is one of the best films I have ever had the pleasure of viewing (I've watched it 3 times in theatres). I put absolutely zero stock into the oscars and for the most part they are NOT indicative of the best films of the year but I must say that this win is well deserved.

If you're a serious fan of the cinematic arts do yourself a favour and watch this film. This is filmmaking of the highest order and in my opinion it is unequivocally the best film of the year. You will not be disappointed.
