they do it so much it seems like it's part of the plan.
My impression is that they're players who recognize that the current plan isn't working and get fed up, think for themselves, but the only chances they get are terrible chances

Yeah, let's look at the silver linings here. This team should be very fresh come the 3rd period since they're putting in zero effort right now. It's like a rope a dope but the hockey version. Stupid like a fox.
