Oddly, no. Not sure if there is a deadline for that or not. Id imagine we hear sometime soon, and then starting lineups 3-4 hours before game time.

It's a great day Jays fans!

Jays are still playing baseball in October but we haven't had to watch Dickey/Thole start a game in almost a month!

Read somewhere that the Jays and Indians rank 1st and 2nd in team ERA and 3rd and 4th in OBP.

On paper this should be quite a battle.

Liriano and Travis are good to go.

Pompey and Goins added in place of Smoak and Feldman.

I'm glad as those two guys were stapled to the bench anyways

No Smoak?!

Wow. I'm happy with that and I completely agree with that but I am shocked Gibbons made that move.

Great stuff. Goins/Pompey far more versatile and valuable for this series.

Goins likely gets the call for fear of Travis hurting himself again. Also heard the Donaldson is playing somewhat hurt, so you could bring him in to play third in a blowout game here and there to give Donaldson some time off. Smoak just happens to the victim here, though I'm not sure he really makes a big difference anyway.

Liriano for Feldman just makes sense.

Smoak has got to be the most useless player in the majors. Well, not really, but god he frustrates me. Really happy they went with a couple defensive/speed players instead. A late game defensive replacement and a pinch runner are more valuable than a pinch strike out king.

That had to have been one of the more random re-signings in Blue Jays history.

It wasn't even a "well, you're alright and we could use you so here's next to nothing if you want a contract", it was a "Yes, we like you, you're our guy so here's decent money" contract.

I like that in addition to Upton (assuming he comes off the bench) we potentially have 3 pinch runners for late game situations.

The Indians led the AL in stolen bases so this gives us a counter-punch to that. And in a series where I would expect pitching and defense to be prominent in a "who makes less mistakes" kind of game, Goins and Pompey make sense as runs could be very scarce in some of these games.

Ya I will never understand that move. Unless Shapiro/Atkins envision that the crop of free agent first basemen coming up is utterly abysmal then maybe I can understand it but surely there are better ways to spend over 8 million dollars for the next two years.

The guy has decent defence at first, is a switch hitter with some pop, but that doesn't really matter if you can't actually hit.

It's not really a decent money contract though for MLB standards. That's basically bottom of the barrel pay for a first basemen. First base is the highest paid position in baseball outside of starting pitcher. It's just basically a cheap first base replacement, which is incredibly aggravating because Smoak can't even pinch hit if they do go out and spend some money on 1B. Just a complete waste. I hope to christ our starting first basemen isn't Smoak next year. I would tolerate it if it meant keeping Edwin at DH.

Hopefully it's Edwin at first base. But I can see a scenario where Edwin is DH and Smoak is the 1st baseman. In fact, that's probably the most likely scenario.

Edwin will not play first base regularly unless it's required due to injury or playoff time. He's indicated on multiple occasions that he feels his hitting suffers when he is in the field and prefers to remain off the field.

Kind of unfortunate, he actually is a half-decent first baseman.

Hmm. I thought his tune had changed in regards to that. Guess not.

Will make it interesting if both he and Bautista return, because I don't think anybody wants to see Bautista back in RF next year. I'd like him back as a DH on his QO. A healthy Joey Bats would be great as a DH IMO, but then Edwin needs to be at 1B

Edwin and Jose can trade off being DH and 1B.

They can chalk the Smoak signing to poor decision making and planning.

I'm sure we can get a project bullpen arm for a switch hitting player with pop.

Hopefully?!?!
