Hey Connor, if MacT calls you via Skype, don't answer.

Connor McDavid: Captain, Coach, Co-GM, Part-Time Mascot and soon to be part owner.

Is mcdavid even old enough for the tri-wizard tournament?

He must have used something incredibly dimwitted like an ageing potion.

So they announced it today (or tomorrow) in order to beat Landeskog's record?
lol.

PS. LOL @ CTV for not even changing their stock standard caption. Happens so much, they probably didn't even notice that this announcement wasn't another coach fired.

To be fair, sadly McDavid is the last best captain since Weight and Messier. All of them have been unskilled and usually character guys.

-- Ference
-- Horcoff
-- Moreau
-- Smith
-- Weight
-- Buchberger
-- Corson
-- McTavish
-- Lowe

That's a terrible list of players.

I'd have thrown it to the Nuge myself.

Unskilled character guys can make good captains. In 89 I recall there were two guys that met that description and the third co-captain was a formerly highly skilled guy but at the very end of his career.

I've never cared how skilled a player is when it comes to naming captains. You want a player who can lead on and off the ice, good character, and will stick up for his teammates. Naming a player captain just because they are the most skilled on the team never made sense to me.

It did to me... when I was 10.

I think Philadelphia made Jason Smith their Captain before he had played a game for them. Could be wrong, but I think that happened.

Buchberger, Weight, and especially Smith were actually good captains. Non-skill guys can make great leaders too. Moreau might have been the worst Captain to ever captain a hockey team in any league.

It's going to be super when he has to answer for the teams failures if they're eliminated by February again.

Now they're all in. They can't strip him of the C if it starts to become an issue.

Just terrible player management. That organization is without a doubt the worst run enterprise in pro sports.

Well that list proves that being young doesn't mean you can't be a good captain.

I acknowledge I am probably in the minority but the Oiler bashing wears me out. I will be happy when the season starts and the results can speak for themselves.

You are kidding yourself if you think this will bring any relief to the perpetual "Oilers bashing." They write their own script, and it is guaranteed to be high comedy.

I'm a little surprised how many people are bashing this. There's plenty of reasons to laugh at the oilers, but this isn't one of them. People actually suggesting Nuge should have been named over McDavid? Come on now
