What a painful game to watch listening to play-by-play guy on Brazil vs Cuba Men's Beach Volleyball!! Thank god the game is over. I don't think this PBP is happy with his job because he had the same calls (boring) even when Cuba won the game. Itsucks because I thought the game was very exciting but the PBP just ruined it for me. Where are the TSN and CBC getting all these guys? Big difference with PBP and color guy for the next game : Women's Beach Volleyball between Germany and Switzerland. These guys makes this game exciting.

This Joker - Del Potro match has the atmosphere of a Davis Cup tie.

They are freelancers from the Olympic Broadcast Service and not connected to the CBC. The CBC is just picking up their PBP feed, which is a world feed. Those broadcasters are not allowed to show any bias or much emotion due to being the host broadcasters for the Olympics.

I wonder how much of that noise is coming from the Brazil-GB doubles match on the other court. Brazil fans predictably loud and one sided.

Quite a boisterous Argentine contingent in attendance and Novak has fans everywhere. The tennis has been excellent in this first set.

I understand they shouldn't show any bias but come on, if there is a good play at least change the tone of their voice even just a notch. This guy was just like telling stories at a senior's place. They might as well let the computer or a robot does the PBP.

The net cord is being very friendly to Del Potro in this first set.

Nobody is more used to playing in front of hostile crowds than Novak. He usually feeds off it.

I do like how the tennis players are still representing their sponsors, even if those aren't the country's sponsor. I'm guessing Uniqlo isn't sponsoring Serbia in any way.

Del Potro is a top 10 player when healthy, so this is a cruel first round matchup for Novak. Del Potro probably doesn't have the match fitness to go 3 so gotta close it out in 2. Also PopNest into a 3rd set in doubles.
