With the NMC, and the term, that's actually a really brutal contract for the Oilers. Especially for a guy, that's really a 20 goal scorer.

You're assuming that Lucic himself won't be desperate to get out of that city in 3-4 years.

Wait, what's the point of an NMC in Edmonton? I thought the point of an NMC is that you couldn't be traded to Edmonton

Also, I'm amused at how 'lockout proofing' has become so ingrained among agents that guys are lockout proofing contracts that will have one year left when the next lockout happens.

Just that they still have no defense who can move the puck up the forwards.

Chia calling in his favours with former players like Lowe did. At least these are still in the league.

Just like the Hall trade, the Oilers have to overpay significantly. Something the previous regimene didn't do/didn't want to do after getting to himself (Lowe) in the trouble he did with his promises.

If Lucic didn't play under Chirelli no way this happens no matter how much money was offered, so this is the money shot for Chirelli to be able to acquire without getting bent over (player wise).Chirelli won't be around to see the end of that seven years.

It doesn't signify a turning point that the Oilers can attract UFAs like so many analyst who are now picking the Oilers to make the playoffs will point to. It's Chirelli using a previous relationship and hoodwinking the player that it's all going to get better (like Lowe did with so many free agents) along with a boatload of cash to ease the blow. Lucic will do and say all the right things because he got paid, and on paper, playing with McDavid I'd a cool idea and what people want to hear.
Let's ask him how he feels about everything in 6 months.

guarantee that he'll get offer sheeted.

4 first mid rounders are not too high of a price to pay for a guy like McDavid...

i will be very surprised if McDavid signs long term in Edmonton...

That's out of context. He was saying their defenseman couldn't get the puck up to hall just like they won't be able to get it up to Lucic

I'm glad he went there. He's such a d-bag it's just fitting. The hate for him and his team all rolled into one now!

And that contract! Love it!

Great deal for the Flames! Lucic is so over-rated its not even funny. Guy is the forward version of Justin Schultz. He'll help you win some games, but his cement head mentality and anger management issues will lose you plenty as well. Love this signing! Oh, and the Oilers still don't have a top pair defenseman on the roster!

I would expect that the Avs are now looking at the Oilers as desparate. They just blew their wallet on a free agent forward, and still have a pretty stinky defense.

Of course we'll send you Barrie, but we want Draisaitl and Nurse for him.
