For that price tag not worth it. How about getting Bouma to earn his new contract. Can be said for a few others

Yeah, odd... nhlnumbers has him with another year on his contract, but of course you (all) are right, he ended up with 12 games last season.
Regardless, $5M looks unlikely at this point. He seems poised for a bridge deal.
If Tkachuk earns anywhere near $3M in bonuses, that's a problem we will all welcome.
They would still have room for a reasonably priced #4 Dman

New coach might get Ferland playing his game again too.

At $3-4 million price tag you have to figure the Flames only circle back if he is still unsigned on July 7th or later and his ask has dropped significantly.

Meh. Runs around for big hits, and is pretty tough, but still a player who has a 20 point ceiling. I hope the Flames are only in it to drive up the price and screw up some other GM.

We don't need Martin. We have several extra bottom 6 players in the system.
We need a quality, young, RW.
We don't need another goalie. Sign Ortio. I never felt that he was given a fair chance.
Play exciting hockey, that's all that I ask.

$3-$4mil? That's absolutely ridiculous for a 4th liner. Still would love Martin, but definitely not at that price. Some team like Carolina or Arizona will give him that but no good team will.

Yeah that's a crazy price but we'll see if he gets that.

I disagree. The flames need less crappy bottom 6 players and more good ones.
Martin is a good one.

I was kind of expecting him to ask about that much. Didn't Prust make almost 3 million on his last contract? He actually deserved it in the beginning, but it ended up looking pretty bad.
Would much rather spend money on someone that actually produces anyways.

I can't speak to his general play or worth, but when the Islanders were here last year, he was the one guy I kept noticing over and over because of his tenacity.
It may also have been the awesome flow.

If anyone here is advocating signing Matt Martin for 3-4 million, please turn in your Flames fan membership, you have lost your mind.

Count me in the group that does NOT want to sign Martin, especially to that kind of contract.
For one thing, many others have already said it, but we have plenty of guys who can play a bottom 6 role, and we can replenish it effectively with young kids hungry for a job.
But also, for a "tough guy" I saw Martin dive like nobody else in the playoffs this year. It was ugly, disgraceful, burrows-esque. I understand trying to get a competitive edge, but what I saw was a guy that had no respect for the game. I can't stand players like that, and I don't want him near the Flames.
Oh, and he doesn't have much offensive talent other than crashing the net. Cizikas was the guy that made plays happen. The other two were just bangers.

I thought Hits was a stat that has issues. Not as bad as plus/minus but it has wide individual arena inconsistencies does it not? Don't players from NYI and LA often dominate the top of the league and when you look at their home/away spits you start to get an idea why.
I know I've read/heard this before but I don't actually know if it is true

Im with you. We have enough overpaid bottom 6 / bottom pairing guys. Not looking to pay even 2.5 for this guy. Whats the point. Bollig Bouma Ferland Engelland thats almost a whole line of players who do what he does for a team. Not to mention a few on the AHL team who do the same thing essentially. I think you can have too many of those types of players. I'm fine with bollig and engelland. Bouma can play up a line on the 3rd once in a while, ferland can reach his potential and start scoring more. Whats the need for another black and blue basically 4th line forechecking grinder? Lets save that 3 million and add it to an offer for a top 6 RW and a backup goalie.

The best July 1st might be a July 1st where the Flames just stay out of the madness, and then take advantage of expansion and cap crunched teams.

I'm thinking that'll be a part of the madness come UFA day. Teams wanting to grab a coveted UFA are going to want to dump a player here or there for next to nothing and so on. The lack of draft day madness has me at least hoping the insanity is going to kick up a notch on July 1.
Theres some tight to the cap teams that might be doing just that.

I'm thinking the same. If they can find a bargain deal then go for it if not keep the course, ride out this year and have the cap space next year when teams want to move some guys.
