I understand the hesitation on Lucic due to the price it will cost, but the idea that Ferland fills the same role as Lucic needs to be thrown out the window. Ferland doesn't even come close to filling the same role as Lucic. If they were cars Lucic would be a Ferrari and Ferland would be my 2005 Chrysler Sebring with the bumper hanging off.

No, Lucic would be a Ferrari, Ferland would be a Yugo.

Ferland, no matter how much he scores, will never be as mean as Milan Lucic. He just doesn't seem to have that edge, he's a gamer but he never goes looking for fights or polices/stands up for teammates that I've seen. Not that I'm advocating a 6.5x6 deal to add a decent 2nd liner just because he plays that role.

I see Lucics, value declining, I still love the guy, but I'd hate to see the Flames give him a contract more than a year, 2 years, max.

I agree. While Lucic doesn't come across as the classiest guy in the NHL, he is a really effective player. Ferland likely isn't better than a 4th liner on a contending team.
I think whatever team gets him is going to overpay big time on term and salary, so for that reason I hope they don't go for him. If we do get him, I will of course root for him.

He used to be like that, but Bob has got him playing smarter, controlled aggression and not taking stupid penalties.
Playing the style has got to be taxing and you can see Lucic, has really pulled back on the aggression too.
Whatever. Lucic was always one guy I said I'd take on my team anytime, but now I'm not sure. 5 years ago sure, not 5 years from today though I doubt.

I really like everything Lucic brings to the table, speed, size, hands, toughness and a bit of a loose cannon. He would be a very nice fit with Gaudreau and Monahan. His size and toughness is sorely needed and I would welcome him punching a few faces of defenceman that take liberties with Gaudreau.
I think we all would welcome him but it is the cost, term and pay, that scares almost all of us off. I can easily see a long term deal being a boat anchor after 3 years.

Maybe, just maybe with Trewizarding he could convince him to sign for < 5 million. Or a re-sign and trade with LA sending someone like Frolik + 2nd the other way. Pipe dream, I know.

Ferland seemed more like Neiminen kind of player. Not really mean, but rough for sure.
Lucic is just down right mean at times and filthy with the hits from behind, spearing, etc... If I had to pick a player most likely to "Bertuzzi" someone one day, it would be him.

If they were both pastries lucic would be a maple glaze and ferland would be powdered sugar.
If they were frozen cocktail concentrate Lucic would be deli cinq and ferland would be welches green grape.
If they were a type of building supply store lucic would be Totem and ferland would be beaver lumber.

Per Moj: Close to ten teams have contacted Milan Lucic. Two Eastern teams are "extremely serious and ready to be in on the bidding"
