[Rumour] Lavoie: Flames looking at Varlamov

I don't know how much I'd look at a Lavoie rumor. My impression is that the guy is more personal opinion than fact. He may be connected to Colorado thru Patrick Roy or someone else. But he strikes me as a blowhard to a certain extent when I've heard his interviews.

The Flames are in a good spot. If the need was a #1 centre like Columbus or Arizona, it's a tough market to fill that need. If the need is to obtain a #1 defensemen, just ask Edmonton or Detroit how hard that is. But since the need is a starter goalie, the Flames are sitting pretty. Any other year and this would be the worst spot to be in (Just ask the 2005-2015 Flyers), but with the emergence of backups and looming expansion draft, it's a buyers market for goalies right now

I wonder what Colorado would think of a Pickard/Ramo tandem. Wouldn't be the worst thing in the world IMO.

Varlamov has been my favourite option since the goalie search started. I hope this is still a viable.

i'd almost rather run a ramo/pickard tandem here than trade for varlamov if the price was the same. ramo can provide average nhl goaltending and pickard is a sure bet as any to become a starter by next year

the optics are the biggest downside to re-signing ramo

He's okay but really pro-francophone. Was kind of pouty when Hartley got fired and couldn't seem to separate reality from personal bias. I would expect Treliving is doing due diligence here but I'm lukewarm on this goaltender especially if it takes considerable assets to attain him.
