When was the last time they mentioned a prospect by name and actually drafted them?

Yeah, even if they had recently, I would still chalk it up to gamesmanship. At one point it was said the Canucks liked Juo, now the Flames say it and it makes the Canucks think just a little longer before they pass on him.

It is most likely the pessimist in me, but I am getting pretty concerned with the contract talks for Sean and Johnny. Every time I see a quote lately, it seems things aren't going smoothly on that front. Hope I am wrong

I don't think there has been much talk of unsmooth contract discussions. Your pessimist is hearing something I'm not.
But what was said about waiting for the cap to be set makes perfect sense. Sign these guys now to big money-8 year deals and then find out the cap ends up the same or even a little less and you've limited how much you can spend on a goalie and you can forget resigning Colbourne.
Have discussions with their agents to get preliminaries out of the way, get some idea of expectations, wait for a budget, project ALL your spending and then negotiate a deal.
This is "the process" at its best

Yeah, I wouldn't be to worried about the contracts. They came across and made a point they don't' foresee a problem. Burke even mentioned about Johnny that he will have a contract and the only reason he wouldn't be is because he hates money. I think things will really start to ramp up once they have the final cap number.

I think they mentioned the cap number would be released in the next week or two, so once that happens, hopefully there's a few signings that happen in advance of July 1st. Want to keep Nakladal!

I would really like to have us keep Nakladal as well, but we are so deep on defence that they may not view it as priority either. Hopefully the last is not the case.

The top three are well established (Gio, Brodie, Ham), but if the team could find their way out of Wideman and Engelland's contracts, Kevin and Nak are much cheaper options. Not to mention Spoon and Kulak have another year under their belts too.

Treliving did mention the 4-4-1 option. I wonder if it would be worth doing Gio, Brodie, Hamiltion, and Kevin with Bennett, Monahan, Gaudreau, + one more forward.
You can only lose one player and I think it is much easier to find forwards then it is Dmen. Since that is the case maybe they take Nak/Spoon/Kulak instead of the forwards we expose.

Crazy prices on StubHub for the preseason Flames game. Pairs range from $US356 to $US1289.42. Only one pair has sold so far, $414.40.

I think Engellend is a guy they should keep as he provides toughness and size on the bottom pair. If he has value then sure trade him but I wouldn't be looking at getting out from under that contract for the sake of it

For this point, he said something along the lines of "I imagine with our 6th pick we will end up taking a forward... or a defenseman... uhhh... that's not really helpful!" It was kind of like a Captain obvious realization on his part more so than a tell, IMO. Maybe someone else that was there can chime in on this?

All teams play the same games. Different GMs will approach it differently but they all do it.

It was pretty funny. After that he commented how insightful that was saying they will be taking a forward or a defenseman, which is why I kind of think he may have let it slip a bit. They said they have done a number of mocks so they either think a Dman will be taken in front of them, or the more likely they have a forward ranked in front of the Dmen whose names aren't Dubois or Tkachuk.

Next time, someone needs to bring along a jar with a coin slot, with "Process Jar" on the front. Liven things up.

I think it's pretty funny that we were dying for new building info to come out of these a year ago and now people are using the time where CalgaryNEXT is talked about to catch up on their email or contemplate their navel.

Or bring Treliving a beer each time he says it.
