That's wrong. They haven't adjusted for the fact that Tampa has already advanced to the Conference Final or that either Nashville or San Jose will also advance.
San Jose's pick with either be 18th if Nashville wins Game 7; or somewhere between 27th and 30th if San Jose wins Game 7.
It is also extremely unlikely that the Bruins will end up with Edmonton's second rounder this year. It is the Oilers' choice whether they give up their second rounder in 2016 or 2017. If there's a one team expansion next year, the absolute worst the Oilers' 2017 pick could be is 32nd overall, so it's virtually guaranteed that the Oilers' second round pick in 2017 will be worse than 2016.
The only way it won't be worse is if there's no expansion and the Oilers finish 30th overall next year. Even then, it would only be one pick better. If you're Chiarelli, giving Boston this year's pick is saying that you're assuming the Oilers will finish last next season.
