Sure, but right now everyone is 3 teams (and I like our chances among those three).

He's not showing his cards right now and it's a competitive playing field right now with several teams snooping around mostly the same candidates. As with draft talk I don't think you can really believe anything Treliving says in regards to the search as he always keeps his cards close to the vest. For all we know he's already had preliminary discussions with the next head coach regardless of what he says today.

Everybody says that Boudreau only coached power house teams.
Is that really true with Anaheim? They are an internal budget team that picked 6th overall when he took over, and he whipped them to 4 straight division titles.
He had Getzlaf and Perry.....but everybody else on that team (besides Kesler who was added in a trade) blossomed under him. Beleseky, Bonino, Lindholm, Vatanen, Silfverberg, Maroon, Despres, both goalies. Plus it's not as if Getzlaf, Perry and Kesler wilted under his watch either.
I dunno, I don't think he gets enough credit for what Anaheim did the last 4 seasons.

Having listening to Monahan, I don't think he is too disappointed, about Hartley getting fired.

Monahan is Monahan. I'm sure his public voice/expression/demeanor is the same whether he's delivering a eulogy or accepting an award. All business. Little emotion.

I got that feeling as well. I don't think he's too heartbroken about it, but that might be his "Boring Sean" personality making me think that.

I like Boudreau, but I don't think he is a rebuild coach. I remain convinced that the Flames need to continue the rebuild, get a solid foundation of players and a good 2 way system in place. Boudreau has spent the last few years making the most of good teams, not building up an inferior team.
If you think last year was atypical of the Flames and they are actually as good as they were in 2014-2015, then he might be the man. Personally, I suspect very heavily that 2014-2015 was an anomaly year and we have many more seasons to go before we should be thinking win-now.

good post ... and I honestly think this is what the organization needs to decide.
I see it the other way.
They're young at the core, but they are skilled and they have depth in that group now. When you have three defensemen, three young forwards, and two great supplementary forwards you should drop the rebuild monicker and get after it.
Add a goaltender.
Add a top six winger
And if you think
a) you can achieve those two
b) after doing so you should be a playoff team
then you'd better make sure you have the coach to make that happen.
why waste a year of a core like that pretending they're not as good as they are.
add to it smartly and start moving up the standings.
(the non-Oiler plan)

Kevin Dineen and Dallas Eakins both are names being thrown around online.
Not sure I like either of those options - although Dineen may have learned from his assistant gig in Chicago and Deboer seemed to improve after leaving Florida.
Eakins would be a disaster IMO but at the same time everyone is a disaster in Edmonton. Plus I think he may be a front runner for the job in Anaheim due to his position on the farm team.

It's a fair point, but Anaheim had probably the best prospect pool in the league when he got there; they were poised to move into a good spot. All that happened under him was that the guys with potential to be good NHL players achieved that potential.
On the other hand, under him, the guys with potential to be good NHL players achieved that potential.
Yes, Boudreau is a very good players' coach, by all indications.

I wouldn't be surprised if they go after John Stevens (LA assistant with large contract to keep him there) or Travis Green (Utica AHL where they have strangely brought in Troy Ward - expecting Green to get NHL gig?)

I don't want Eakins at all.
That being said, if he was hired and had success, that would certainly be sweet.

In his first season with the Ducks (he came on late Nov), they actually finished 25th place leading to the 6th overall draft pick you spoke of. Prior to the year Boudreau took over, they finished in 9th place overall...so it's not like he was taking over a team in the dumps.

In regards to Boudreau, I think on the radio this morning they mentioned he was a loss or two away from being fired mideason this year- he held a meeting and let the players know that if a new coach came in they would be less fun to play for. The team was the best in the league after that I think

What does "Brian Burke & Bob Murray both love Dallas Eakins." even mean? That's just purposefully fishing for reactions.
