- Young team, everybody's around my age so we can all get better
- gotta keep improving so they get to their best
- everything was new at the start, (system/teammates/city) but got to a point where he felt comfortable
- Not going to Russia for WC
- Game in O-zone is very different from Boston, likewise defensively. More rush, less cycle.

Hiller is a butthole. Good riddance if that's his attitude.
Ortio hitting all the right buttons in interviews IMO. Really like his attitude. I hope he gets another chance here and makes the most of it, but if not I wish him luck wherever he goes.

- Start hurt them
- Good teams find a way to get in every year, gotta get into the conversation
- won't regret skipping Russia
- message to young guys is don't take PO for granted, such a tight league
- difference between last year and this year was swagger and pushback
- 5 games were the difference, can pick and choose 5 they should have won. But chasing, clawing, scratching all year. Inconsistent after Christmas when they got back into the mix.
- Start wasn't good, goalies took blame for that but they were giving up too many great chances early on. Goaltending important position but can't expect goalie to make saves on the kind of chances we gave up [early on] in the slot.
- See the years ago by. First few years the Flames were perennial playoff team, finally getting back in last year was great but rough for him personally. Gotta get back next year.

Ryan Leslie: Plenty of reasons why the season didn't go the way the group wanted, but as it pertains to goaltending, why wasn't it there this year when a year ago it was?
Jonas Hiller: I don't know, I don't think goaltending was terrible here. I thought ... we give up a lot ahm ... it seems like ... you see so many high quality scoring chances against you and then you lose, and after that it's kind of tough to have confidence and go out there with confidence. I mean you can make a difference to a certain part, but it's not possible ... there's ah ... everybody around you is not playing at your best, so at the end, as a goalie it's not easy.
plus ~57 "yeahs" that I didn't include. Seemed to stutter a lot towards the end as he carefully chose his words. Pretty apparent (at least to me) that he thinks the defense was the problem, not him. Thanks for 2014-15 I guess, but good riddance ... don't let the door hit you on the way out.

-Got timely goals last year in 3rd periods when down, those goals didn't come.
-Body doesn't feel 100%
-Team took a lot more penalties at times this year
Hiller
-roller coaster year
-thankful for chance he got here
-year didn't work out as he wanted, but happy with overall experience here
-not returning, kinda knew already
-realistically doesn't think he can play in NHL next year, checking all his options. Hoping expansion means more jobs open up
-didn't think goaltending was "terrible" all year but with so many quality chances early on they lost confidence.
Backstrom
- Clear on what he wants to do. Last couple weeks here gave him answers he needed.
- Realistically, thinks NHL is a stretch but thinks he can still play. Have to work hard and still wants to do that
- Really appreciates his time here, great six weeks. Not up to him, dream is always to play in NHL.
- Ortio "impressed" him. They have skated together in the summer. Ortio played at a consistent level, made the saves he had to make, not up-and-down.
-the couple good games showed him he can still play at the level he wants to play.

I want the Flames to hire Backstrom as goaltending coach. I think he has the right mindset for the job.

I did some research and it looks like it was the February 15th game against the Ducks when they lost 6-4.

Near the quarter-pole of a particularly frustrating season for Hiller, the 34-year-old pending free agent says Hartley explained his decision to pull him wasn’t based on fault.
“He talked to me this morning and told me that,” said Hiller on Tuesday. “I thought that because I didn’t feel they were bad goals. Some nights, the puck seems to have eyes and find a way in and sneak through. In those situations as a goalie, it’s not like you want to get pulled. But at the same time, you understand it. You try to check it off as quick as possible.

One of things I'll always remember about Kipper is he took responsibility when he had a bad game. Sometimes he was too hard on himself and took the blame when he shouldn't have but atleast he never threw his team under the bus like Hiller does.

I think it would be difficult to trade Ortio for anything. Maybe as part of a package but Flames would seem like his best shot. Wherever he goes, he is waiver eligible.
Is it a guarantee the Flames qualify him? I would put it as more likely than not.

The main thing I remember from Hiller is once Ramo got hurt after a long series of games and Hiller came in cold against the Shark, Hiller was quick to complain during the interview after the game that he should be getting more starts and how it's difficult to be on the bench so much. Well maybe if he actually played decent he would have kept the 1A starter position. He ended up being hot garbage instead of taking the opportunity, and Ortio ended up taking the interim starter position.
Ramo got sent to the AHL after being horrible and came back and took the starter job, along with being noticeably better.

Remember if he trashes the goaltending he's trashing Ortio and Ramo so rather than go that route and say they were terrible he talks about the early team struggles. I just don't understand why we have to trash the guy on his way out the door. After two years of nothing he's all of a sudden a bad guy and teammate on garbage day? Tough crowd. Things didn't work out but let's not go all Oilers fan and trash players on the way out as its petty.
Also some revisionist history going on here as Kipper was the first guy sneaking out the back door on garbage bag day.

Hiller was an unaccountable bum for this entire year. His body language both on and off the ice said a lot. So glad he's done, just couldn't hack it and it was everyone's fault but his.

Kipper pretty much earned whatever exit he wanted though. He was the reason those late 2000's/early 2010's teams weren't lottery teams.

He earned the right to dodge media at the end of the season because he's Kipper? Sorry that doesn't cut it especially when you trash a goaltender that faces the media and answers the tough questions on garbage day after a disappointing season.

He could have said something like "I'm not going to comment on Karri and Joni's play but as far as mine goes,...".
