Mangiapane is doing great in Juniors and I have high hopes for him.
As an aside speaking of players who had to reinvent themselves, Nick Kypreos scored 62 goals as a 19 year old.

And Mangiapane was named OHL player of the month today:

Quote:
OHL Player of the Month – Andrew Mangiapane (Barrie Colts):
Calgary Flames prospect Andrew Mangiapane has been named the OHL Player of the Month for March, leading all players with 22 points, including seven goals and 15 assists in nine contests. Signed to an NHL contract by the Flames on Wednesday, Mangiapane’s magnificent March was headlined by a run of seven straight multi-point performances, including back-to-back four point nights. The speedy winger had a goal and three assists in an 8-1 win over the Owen Sound Attack on March 9th before duplicating that stat line two nights later in a 7-3 win over the Sudbury Wolves on March 11th. Mangiapane closed out the season with a goal and three assists in an 11-4 triumph over Sudbury on March 19th. In total, Mangiapane received star of the game recognition four times, being honoured as first star on three occasions for the Central Division champs.

To be fair he was playing in an era where a good save % was anywhere between .860 to .890 where as now if ur below .910 you are struggling.

Highly doubtful, but anything is possible.
That'd be pretty sweet.
For me, I'm hoping that we pick high enough to get a forward who pushes for a spot, and also have one of Poirier or Shinkaruk also push for a spot.

From what some people describe Mangiapane as, it sounds like he's some sort mini-Gaudreau in his stature. 5'10" is small but still larger than a Byron or Gaudreau.

Yeah it's a little odd to me too.
He's may be below NHL average, but he's not tiny like many are making it sound.
By the time he's done filling out, he could be playing at 195-200lbs.

Lot of people are suggesting 5'10'' is a bit generous on 960 today.

Gaudreau does play a 200 ft game, but he isn't a defensive player. He is used in offensive situations primarily. Mangiapane not only plays a solid 200 ft game, but he is frequently used on the PK.
My best comparison is if Byron and Gaudreau had a hockey baby. Take Byron's tenacity, defensive awareness, and speed, and combine it with Gaudreau's offensive awareness, shiftiness, and golden hands.
Pack on 15 lbs and upwards of 3 inches and you've got one hell of a hockey player that could possibly play on any line, in any situation. Realistically I could see him as a solid middle 6 utility player.

Well Brad Marchand is 5'9 and 180. If he is the same size already I hardly think he will have a problem playing in the NHL

I have heard others use Brad Marchand as a potential comparable for size. He is listed at 5'9" and 183 lbs.

195-200lbs at ~5'10 would make him borderline overweight.
Guys at that size don't fill out to that sort of weight.

There is no way he is actually 5'10. He has a slight frame as well ala Gaudreau
That's why size is brought up. Having said that, I''m one of his biggest supporters and think he will be a Tyler Ennis-Byron hybrid.

You can check out his stature in that video
(8 months old-which can make a difference at that age)

I hope he turns into a skilled #### disturber like Byron/Marchand.

I've seen multiple sources stating that Mangiapane is 5'10". His weight has fluctuated from site to site by a kg or two, but his height is constant.
When Gaudreau's height was called into question, six unrelated sites posted six different heights. I'm seeing nothing but consistency. Also, compare him to the other guys on the ice, and the difference isn't noticeable at all. In fact, the announcers on SN have confused Sadowy and Mangiapane on more than one occasion.
His height doesn't seem to effect his game whatsoever, as he is repeatedly one of the most physical guys on the ice at all times.

He would look good next to Bennett. That'll probably be season after next if it were to happen though. But by how good he looked in camp I'd say if he develops, he may be able to fast track it with that kind of effort like that he put in before.

I confess I haven't seen this kid at all - is he a guy that doesn't need the puck on his stick all the time? If so, yes, he'd mesh with Bennett, who likes to carry.

He was easily the best forward for the flames in Penticton IMHO. Add another year and by this fall I think he does have a good shot at sticking...
