So yeah looking pretty much like a one and done for golf at the Olympics, at least for the pros. Maybe they go with amateurs only in 2020. But if none of the top guys care, it becomes a mid-level PGA event basically, and no one at all cares about that. But there will always be the Ryder Cup as an international golf event, and its way better than the Olympic tournament will be.

Sure hope it isn't one and done... I imagine that once these guys see their colleagues getting Olympic medals for their countries the competitive juices will flow and they'll regret not being there. At least I sure hope that's what happens

How does Rory or any other pro golfer have an obligation to grow the game? He's just telling it like it is. Olympic golf doesn't move the needle for these guys. It would actually cost them money. I don't blame any of them for not going.

That's assuming there will even be golf in 2020. We all know how the IOC works, these big PGA stars are giving the IOC the finger. Fully expect the IOC to give it right back and push golf out of the Olympics ASAP.

Did anyone watch the end of the US Women's Open last weekend? Swedish golfer gets assessed 2 stroke penalty for grounding her club in bunker during playoff. Cost her the tournament.
Bad break but can't help but think she has done it many many times before without it being caught on video. She brings her club so close to the sand it has to be a regular occurrence for her.

That was so crazy though. You needed HD close-up and super slo-mo to see it. Some of these rulings that only occur when bought to attention by replays - a leaf wiggled during a back swing, a grain of sand moved - none of those had any impact on the shot being played. I understand zero tolerance but that really is too far, imho.

Seemed like it was meant to be when Bones talked him out of driver and his 3W somehow didn't end up in the bunker. Good day to go very low because the weekend conditions sound pretty tough. Banking lot of birdies today could be huge come Sunday.

I agree there was really no impact to the shot but that is the risk you take by bringing your club within a millimeter of the sand. Not being able to ground your club is a part of the penalty for hitting into a bunker so keeping your club an inch off the ground makes the shot harder, but eliminates risk of a penalty.

Screwed the pooch with this one.
Golf should have been back on the docket for London 2012 - Guarantee that it would have generated momentum for it as a sport in the Olympics then and all the big names would have went.
It being in Brazil and the Zika virus are causing all the issues.

I'm really glad I put some money down on Phil to win this weekend although anything can happen over the next three days and Phil isn't always a consistent player.

in 2012 with Tiger still winning golf would have made a killing in London.

Totally different day out there today, only Rory and Jason Day are playing well in the afternoon with lots struggling. Phil and Henrik Stenson have to be happy to have their scores in the clubhouse, but with the forecast as is for the weekend could easily see them coming back 5 or 6 shots and making things really interesting.

Golf summed up: Louis Oosthuizen will miss the cut, and in the 36 holes he played he made all pars, bogeys, or worse, with the exception of...a hole in one.
