I also wonder how much we under-rate Crosby. The fact he is never discussed is interesting to me given all he's accomplished and his elite level in all facets of the game.

Is he top 10? Top 20? Where does he fit in.
I think fitness and coaching has decreased the gap between the best of the best and the elite players. So I guy like Crosby or now McJesus will never have the gap relative to their peers that Gretzky did.

For 20 years only Jagr, Gretzky or Lemieux won scoring titles

Howe won the Hart trophy 6 times, Jagr just once so I would argue he had several dominant seasons. Howe obviously achieved his totals through longevity but also played in an era where there was less scoring.

Jagr just moved into 2nd all time with an assist on a goal in the 3rd. Of course it was of the fluke variety. It bounced off his butt right to Barkov who scores. They halted the game to present him with a gold stick. This is a 2 to 1 game with less than 10 to play too.

Celebrate the moment IMO. It might be 6-7 more years before anyone gets close to 1500 career points. There may never be another 1500 point scorer.

Seems odd to stop the game. But it's a big a deal. So whatever.

Very impressive. The people from the past probably get glorified a bit over the people we actually have the pleasure of watching. I'm sure a bunch of arbitrary BS doesn't really matter much to Jagr. He's #2 on the all time list of statistical points the sport most values. In a game where the #1 spot is effectively unreachable, it's a generation defining feat.

Quite astute. Hard not to do though, given some of their personalities.

Can we just appreciate the hockey legend while he's still playing than bringing up there comparisons? Congrats to Jagr on an incredible accomplishment

Very possible Thornton could hit 1500 if he plays 2 more seasons

Celebrating and appreciating an accomplishment like that goes hand in hand with comparing it to others.

His accomplishment was passing a peer on the scoring list. For an 1871st point to be significant it needs to be compared to the others around him.

You might have an argument for 1500th point or 2000 point.

Looked this up and it's actually 21 years...that's crazy.

Until Iginla won, no one besides those 3 had one since Gretzky's first win.

Such a cool moment. Weird how they stopped the game and interviewed him on the spot. But we'll probably never see a moment like this again.

First thing he does is hop over the boards and acknowledge the Bruins, for whom he played for a couple seasons ago. What a class act.

Comparing him to Howe. How insulting.

Jagr is just like 111 points away from 2000. I really hope he does get to it. He is on a 50-point pace this year. So this season and 2 more maybe?
