He signed a contract years ago, what are the Flames supposed to do, give him a 5 million dollar bonus check? Jiri's no idiot, surely he understands that.

Hudler did say on his post game interview last night he felt like he was as 45%, so injury could be a factor for his disinterested play too.

So he doesn't understand how contracts work?
^Injury is the best explanation for his play. But why would he want a "fresh start"? The whole thing seems weird to me.

Having a career year at 31 when the players the team brought in and pod over the summer were 22 and 27. The writing was always on the wall for Huds. Johnny and Monahan are the future and will be paid, and vets like him will move on unless they take a lower salary to be part of the team.
Gio took less than market value to stay. All the talk of Buff getting 8 years $7+M leads me to believe Gio (who is back on pace for 55pts) could have gotten $8M on the open market. He took $6.75 and 6 years.
I also think the fact Hudler is on the small side hurts his value to the team

He's been eligible to sign a new deal with the Flames since last July 1st, I believe. It could be that he's upset that they've yet to offer him a contract or that what they've offered is below what he feels he's worth in comparison to the Frolik and Hamilton deals.

Well as other have said, that makes no sense. Sure he could have signed on July 1st, but that doesn't happen that often. Only with franchise guys. So what if Frolik and Hamilton got bigger contracts? He was already signed. That means every other player in the league who is a pending UFA should be sad because other players sign contracts on their team? Makes no sense.
And from what I gathered, Jiri was very happy playing a mentoring role last season and said it's a role he loved. Can't for the life of me figure out why he'd want a fresh start. Oh yea that's right, he's a UFA who just had a career high season and he's looking to cash in. I don't blame him one bit for wanting to cash in. He's earned every penny of his contract here and deserves one last big pay day. I just hope it's not with us.

Maybe he lost morale when his A was stripped and given to 21 yr old Sean Monahan. He definitely took pride in being a big leader for this group after watching how it was done in Detroit

He was never officially an assistant captain. He wore a letter after Glencross was traded and Gio was hurt.

I'm of the opinion that the letter to Monahan was too early and has not panned out this season. I see it as a mis-step

If anything it's his pending new contract that's probably weighing him down.
There are plenty of leaders on this team. I doubt Monahan has much to say to bunch of guys who are older then him and have been in the league longer then him.
More worried about him next year when he gets the new contract, if he's struggling now, bigger contract will only magnify his struggles if they happen next year.

Lol, if that was the case then he never would have deserved to be in a leadership position in the first place.
2011 - 37 points
2012 - 50 points
2013 - 53 points (pro-rated)
2014 - 54 points
2015 - 76 points
2016 - 50 points (pace)
Hudler came to the Flames as a 50 point forward from Detroit, despite scoring being down he's on pace for 50 points. Maybe it shouldn't be too shocking, especially given that he wasn't exactly consistent with Detroit putting up 37 points in 2011, that he's on pace for 50 points. If you look at his stats, last year appears to be the anomaly as opposed to this year.
I think the idea that other players' contracts or him pouting about his role are an insult to Hudler. Potential injuries and historically inconsistency with his game seem to be the more obvious reason.
EDIT: Badgers Nose already touched on this a week ago.

Tampa has two 2nd's as well, their own and Boston's.
These are potential trade partners for the Flames I'd imagine. Playoff bound teams with a couple extra picks they wouldn't be worried about losing for a rental.
Getting a couple 2nd round picks for Hudler would be a steal IMO. He's worth more than Glencross. Yeah he's been struggling but he's still on pace for over 40 points and can be an asset for a playoff team if he gets hot again.

Isn't it a 3rd rounder the Oilers have to give up to the Bruins since they hired PC in the off season? I thought 2nd rounders are for hires during the season (Torts).

As history relates, the Bruins did demand their compensation, a second rounder since the Chairelli hire was deemed to be “in season”, even as Edmonton’s season was already over. But the trigger for executives is the Draft

After 49 games
2014-15 - 15 G 16 A
2015-16 - 15 G 18 A
He's slightly ahead of his pace that he was on last year.
In his last 33 games, he put up 16 G 15 A a year ago.
It is entirely possible, especially if he plays like he did like he did last game, that he will be able to match or possibly eclipse his total from a year ago.
