I agree except for Bollig and Ferland talking to Kassian.

Bollig did throw 2 big hits immediately after Kassian hit Wideman then skated by Kassian and said something. I would imagine it was along the lines of " see I can run people to if you wanna play that game".

Which is actually why we don't see many games any more being physically imposing anymore. The big hitters , tough guy and goons are being phased out. We are not going to get alot of games like those anymore.

Being phycical now is being able to over power guys off pucks with out a hit and just out working them along the boards.

I like the high skill game and are glad staged fights and the likes of them are long gone but players seem like they are afraid to hit anymore for fear of retaliation or penalty.

I not the most elegant writer but it just seems the NHL is becoming less and less phycical play. It seems its going the way of soccer more and more.

This is the New B.O.A. full stop. We as a society are so babied now that this is a hockey rivilary now.

Sorry I should clarify. I'm not necessarily saying Bennett should play for Wideman specifically, what I am saying is that it baffles me Wideman continuously gets PP time and Bennett, the hottest guy on the team barely sees the ice in OT. Two completely separate issues, but very questionable coaching in my opinion.

I did however suggest Bennett may be a better dman than Wideman, but I was mostly joking..

The Jack Adams isn't about who is the best coach. Usually it goes to whomever does the best turd polish.
Of the guys who got fired, they all had long tenures with the team and lasted a few years after winning the Jack Adams. MacLean is the only exception. He was gone early into the 2nd season after his win.

I still think the coaches are doing a good job of coaching this young and growing team. If this was a veteran team then we have huge concern but it isn't.

We don't need to find a scapegoat to fire after each loss.

It's frustrating how little we utilize TJ Brodie on the PP.

This is what you get when you only have one skilled forward on your team; especially on the PP and in overtime it's clear how badly we need another playmaker. Johnny can't be the only forward generating offence -- Bennett is starting to turn it on but is still developing. Hudler was that guy last year but with him injured/struggling and Monahan snake bitten we have nobody right now.

P.S. I cannot wait until Bennett takes over as top-six center. Backlund can be a decent third line guy but he really struggles generating anything offensively. Seeing him on the PP in overtime was a joke -- what was he doing standing at the blue line? Your job is to get into scoring position buddy, not wait for the defencemen to do it all. /rant

have to shoot the puck on the PP.

And when you shoot you have to hit the net.

Flames are a small peripheral team. Watching them in a powerplay moving the puck around without anyone standing in front of the goalie and no point man blasting hard shots. No wonder they're so pathetic on their powerplays. The only guy really willing to go to the front of the net is Ferland (and Coborne if he plays well).

That power move by Backland in OT - man, I wish he'd do that consistently every game.

Why the Hell did they stop playing after the first period? We are not Anaheim who can sit on a 1-0 lead. I should have plowed the driveway tonight.

Just wanna shout out to all the flames fans I encountered at the game. Same as when I'm in Calgary as an Oiler fan. Classy.

I detest seeing Wideman out there. The guy has the ability to shoot hard but elects to do something else and can't keep any plays alive. Wideman's total crap this year and I can't wait until he gets traded at trading deadline or gets picked up by another team for next season. Brodie at least creates plays and can hold pucks in the opposition zones.

Talbot stole the game for the Oiler's. They played bad enough to get the loss and their goalie didn't buy into the team mantra.

Flames could and probably should have had a bigger lead coming out of the first and let off the gas a little. Any offensive chance was either weak (Jooris versus 3 defenders for a long shot) or high and wide. They kept up with some measure of a forecheck with the Oiler's repeatedly turning it over like they were trying to evenly cook a spit roast but again Talbot makes key and huge saves.

Some small positives to take away despite the overall mediocre showing:
- Jones using his body by throwing it around in the forecheck often to contribute physically as his scoring has dried up.
- Backlund with more flashes of offensive brilliance. The Bennett assist, recognizing the miscommunication in OT and driving to the net almost scoring and other plays.
- Brodie being so good it seems like a 1 man pairing with Gio cast in the shadows. Definitely won't be the last time this happens for better and worse.
- Hiller doing his job in getting his team a chance at a W. Unfortunately they let him down.
- Bennett, enough said.

Hate to say it cause I love the guy but Gelinas might have to go.

A powerplay with Gaudreau, Brodie and Bennett on it shouldn't be this futile. Whatever system they're implementing, it's too simple. I've seen good PPs and you can just tell there's a tried and true plan being executed. It's not a circle around the perimeter and wait/hope for an opening approach. Ain't working.

Because he doesn't shoot the puck when he has the chance and insists on skating down below the net and then tossing it out in front all the time.

Better than Wideman's patented hail mary every time he gets a chance.

I also think Gaudreau has been gripping the stick a bit since ever since the december run ended. Yeah he has points, but he's still capable of a lot better than this. He looks unsure of himself and keeps stopping and turning back on rushes to buy himself time to come up with a play, sometimes turning it over in the process. Whereas before, he was busting through the offensive zone just improvising his way to the net as well as being opportunistic, but going by instinct and clearly not overthinking it.

Good thing Bennett has been picking up the slack offensively. The kid is a player now.
