3rd generation Albertan, my great-grandparents on both sides came to Canada (Raymond and Magrath) in the 1900s and most of my extended family is still in southern Alberta. I was born in Raymond & raised in Lethbridge but moved to Calgary in 1998. Got transferred to Montreal for about 10 months in 2001, then came back to Calgary. Got transferred again in 2007 (to Lethbridge this time) then came back to Calgary again in 2011. No plans to ever leave again - this is home and there's nowhere else we'd rather be.

My first glimpse of Calgary came in the summer of 1957, right after graduating from high school, when I travelled out from Ontario with my uncle who had taken a job as president of a small oil company. Calgary was a small city with a population of about 185,000 people. I was only here for a few weeks, and recall going on a picnic one weekend to a small town west of Calgary called Bowness. I also remember having dinner one night at one of the best eating places around called Eamons out on Highway 1A. We took a drive to Banff on Highway 1A which I think was the only way to get there from Calgary at the time. I remember being told that women could not attend the bars in Calgary, but could in Cochrane. So on weekends many people journeyed out to Cochrane to drink. And after the bars closed, it was bedlam driving up the Cochrane hill when the weather was bad.
On graduation in geology from Queens University in 1962, I travelled out to Calgary, with my wife and son, where I took a job with a major oil company. At the time oil was selling for just under $2.00 a bbl, and natural gas at about 10 cents per Mcf. I believe the population was about 250,000. We were dirt poor, just starting out. However, we were not alone, as all of our friends were also.
I recall thinking I would save about 2 years of my working life by living close to downtown. So we lived in Rosscarrock, Killarney, Glenbrook, Westgate and finally bought our first house in Wildwood in 1968, where we have lived ever since.

Born here at the holy cross in 1983. I've lived here my whole life aside from a year in Victoria while my mom was at UVic working on her PhD.
We always had a home in Calgary though.
I've always wanted to move somewhere else, but I love this city. I'm raising a family here.

I'm a first generation Canadian, but "old stock" Calgarian. I emigrated from Vietnam to Calgary as a toddler and have been here since. I feel old. Get of my lawn.

Redforever - that map is amazing. Though I can't stop laughing at how optimistic the city was about Barlow Trail back then. And 15 interchanges for the east freeway alone. Good thing it did take so long to build Stoney, or it would have ended up as another Deerfoot.

Born at the General Hospital in 1979 to British immigrants. My eventual wife, I would find out later, was born there exactly a week later - almost to the hour.
I have traveled plenty, but I can't picture myself living anywhere else. In fact, I have lived in exactly two places: my parents' house (where they still live), and my own house.

Born in the General in 66, lived here all my life. It'll be 50 years in just under 3 weeks. Not sure when my parents came here...but it was before me. They both came from Saskatchewan.
My daughter once asked me if I could live anywhere in the world where would I live?
I told her I can live anywhere in the world but I choose to live here.

Born in 1983 at Calgary General
Left for Phoenix/PHX Metro in 2009 as a dual citizen (Dad is american)
No will to move back, it's not the same city that I loved growing up.
Much prefer AZ, overall really easy place to live and it is much more affordable down here. The weather speaks for itself, 8 months of perfect weather with 4 months of hot as fata. I can deal with that.
Still haven't even returned to Calgary since I moved in 09, but plan to take my California native girlfriend this June to see where I grew up.
I miss certain things about the city, but generally... I don't miss living there at all.

We were both born in the same year at the same hospital. Sad seeing a hipster hood replace the general but the area is a lot cleaner now.

I lived in AZ for 8 years and much prefer it here, mostly because of the mountains. I got tired of sh't biting, sticking, jabbing, stinging or chasing me on desert hikes and climbs. A good freeze every now and then does wonders for the bugs. There is something irreplaceable about K-country,
Oh yeah, Calgary since '72. AZ in '88 for university. Back here in '96.

I could definitely do without the bugs down here. Current place gets about 10-20 scorpions in the garage a year. Bug spray gets them or the traps but I've seen 2-3 in the house the past year.
Fata those things

Born at the Foothills in '85. My dad is a bricklayer, and my mom does operations management. Grew up in Deer Run, spent most of my childhood running around Fish Creek. When I was 12, we moved to an acreage just southwest of Spruce Meadows. I lived there until I was 17. Went to UofC for my BA - studied under the Calgary School. Worked for Preston Manning for a few years. Had a brief foray to Ottawa for an MA. Came back for an aboriginal engagement consultant gig. Worked on just about every pipeline project running through BC. Now I do something else. Not sure what is next, but it looks like Vancouver.
I guess I will always be a Calgary boy though. It just feels like the best town there is.

Born here in 93.
My grandparents were deported to Alberta from BC in World War II.
One good thing that came out of that is that we don't have to be Canucks fans...
