How are either of these numbers impressive at all?

3rd best in a short period of time out of half the teams!

Not in the playoffs!

COACH OF THE YEAR!

One-off??? The great Mike Backcock has won a single Stanley Cup as head coach which is exactly the same as that one-off coach Bob Hartley. Not only that the Flames are a younger team than the Leafs and it's not like Babcock is using three kids under 22 years old in his top six forward group like Hartley. He's guiding a team full of mediocre veteran players to a mediocre record and since when was that Jack Adams material? I guess it is when it's the great Mike Babcock in Toronto.
and the Flames have basically the same record this season to date...is it a two off?

Get 97 points and make it to the 2nd round of the playoffs...then you can start to compare to the leafs to the Flames of last season. The Oilers were pretty good in December too

So exactly like he said, 3rd best out of half the teams over a small sample size; over the larger sample size they're in the basement.

There's 6 teams in the East?

They are a bottom 5 team in the NHL. This is a laughable thread.

Washington is on pace for 130 points right now. The Leafs are 2 points ahead of the Oilers. Trotz is so far ahead of Babcock for this it's not even funny. Hell with how well Florida and Detroit are doing both their coaches are ahead of Babcock too. He's the third choice for his award in his own division. Toronto media will Toronto media.

I said 3rd in the conference. It's odd to turn it into a league wide stat.

By "Toronto Media" you mean 1 guy from Western Canada who based his theory on advanced stats.

So coach of the year shouldn't go to the best coach, it should go to the highest paid coach.

Can we close this thread please?

I didn't know the Jack Adams award turned into the "most improved shot attempt differential stats" award.

Winning doesn't factor into it anymore.

Shouldn't you as a leafs fan be absolutely tearing this guy to shreds instead of trying to rationalize him?
