What's with the foot shuffling? I find it kind of annoying and for some reason, most of the people who walk along without picking up their feet seem to be Asian...
And the horking on the sidewalk. Again, I've seen a lot of Asian people walk along the sidewalk (or worse: indoors!) and hork a loogey. What's the deal?
|
I don't think I've ever encountered both of these more so in asians than any other race. Maybe it just so happens the ones you see are asians?
I suppose. Could just be that I'm racist too...

Table 5, it's really not that hard.# You just have to remember.# Be respectful to her family members...buy them good expensive gifts if necessary.# It makes it even harder if you're a white guy, so be sure to always be respectful and lie about how much you enjoy the mother's cooking.# Once you're in with the family, they'll always remind their daughter how awesome you are.# This helps, because she will probably get annoyed and give in to you.
Calgary Flames, I have never known an oriental person to be naturally blonde.# I have seen brown hair orientals...and I once met a girl who for some reason had some red to her hair (naturally), but no blondes.# Sorry.# Not unless she's mix (asian and white), but that doesn't count cause she isn't truly asian.
|
So my daughter, who speaks Japanese (and understands English), holds a Japanese (and Canadian) passport, goes to Japanese kindy, and is being raised in Tokyo is not really Asian because she is not "pure-bred". I have a Swedish/German background and was born and raised in Canada, my wife is from a city near the base of Mount Fuji.
And do you really like Ayumi Hamasaki's music? Also, would your child (Chinese-Japanese) be more pure than say a Caucasian-Japanese one.
Since you're letting people ask.
|
To Ayumi: Yes.
you mean pure asian? I suppose so. I have a friend who's half korean half chinese, and she looks like a normal asian to me. i guess it really depends on what you mean by "pure." I'm making a comparison superficially of course.
|
I think the use of the word "pure" is kinda dumb. Asia = everything from India east, does it not? It also implies a special benefit that I don't see.
Yes, I agree. That's why I wanted you to clarify what you meant by pure.

Five questions, though I have a lot of Asian buds and find myself a speck in a veritable sea of yellow sometimes, I do not understand some primarily asian customs.
1. The FOBs vs. the FOB Killers (Saw it in the newspaper, laughed really really hard at the fresh off the boat thing) - least intimidating gang names ever? What's up with them?
2. What's the deal with the haircut that like 90% of the dudes at the Eau Claire place near the movie theatre (I think they might be philipino, though, rather than Chinese - perhaps not your element? They're a little bit far away from each other...). They are darker skinned, sometimes) have? Like spiked in weird ways with colors protruding? Sharp enough to slit a throat or give a nasty nasty papercut like injury?
3. Why so many weird faces on the internet? Whenever I'm on Messenger I get a shinguardstorm of ^^, -_-, ^__^, etc. I hate these weird faces and quite frankly they scare me. I fear change from regular emoticons.
4. What is your score on www.alllooksame.com?
5. Why are half Asian half White girls so hot? Wow, I've seen a few great lookers.

Why do old Asian people on the bus yell at each other? They can easily go sit beside the other person and speak normally, yet they sit 10 seats apart and talk very very loud. (I was a former rider of the #3 bus coming out of downtown straight up Centre street for about a year.) Thank god for headphones.

TCMB may correct me, but I have a Japanese friend who says Chinese people always appear to be yelling because it's just the nature of their language.

#2: Anime, and well, it's currently the style. IT's all over Taiwan as well.
#3: Anime, those emoticons look more like anime
#5: It's not just half asian half white, it's half half anything
And re: spitting:
In mainland China the reason is because it's healthy to expurge phlegm from your throat. (well, thats what they say)
No one really spitts in Taiwan, except for the damn betel but chewers.. nasty stuff that is....

That made me laugh too. I used to have a ball hockey team named the FOBs and it was funny to see a local gang using the same name.

My question for Chinese people:
From what I have seen, Chinese people tend to have very clean, but very plain houses and yards. Extremely simple and under-decorated, yet maintained to the highest degree.
Why is this?

1. Since I've never been in a gang, I don't feel qualified to answer this question. Instead, I will give the answer "ha gau siu mai" as an answer that hopefully might satisfy someone.
2. I think it has to do with how anime characters look.
3. Again, I think it has to do with how anime characters look...what with the happy eyes and stuff.
4. What the crap are you talking about?
5. Not sure, but I dated one and almost dated another. So yeah, I have a strong attraction to mixed girls.

fung shui may be a factor in this case, but a lot of chinese families usually decorate their houses with elaborate chinese artwork. Like paintings of bamboo and birds and dragons and pheonixes. however, some chinese can't be bothered with artwork, and it has nothing to do with fung shui.
I do know that asians like to maintain things. So that's probably why things look brand new...there's also another reason...the saran wrap lol
I'm surprised that no one mentions the way chinese folks would wrap up pretty much everything in saran wrap (such as remote controls, stove tops, furniture...etc).

http://www.alllooksame.com is a site that was made by an Asian fellow in response to people not being able to differentiate between people of Chinese, Japanese or Korean descent. Some of my Asian friends claimed they correctly identified up to 16/18 people in the game, being of different backgrounds and knowing facial traits - I identified 2. I was wondering if all Asian people could partake well in the game?

Go to either chinatown or t&t supermarket. As for picking a wok, I can't help you there.

Someone said this thread was the "original" of all of the "I'm _, ask me anything" threads, so I figured I'd reply and see what all the hype is about.
My question: With you being allowed to bear only one child, what happens if you have twins? Legal exception?

Chinease people gossip. Alot. If you get caught with a dirty house or something, you will probably get talked about. It's all about presentation, ass sucking and all that good stuff (see, a page earlier talking chinease people being overly nice, but probably saying something different behind your back).
My family's been a little different. Our house is your average, Canadian house... could use some cleaning. No fancy stuff or buddha's or dragon's or anything.

What's the deal with Asians and eclipses? There was a lunar eclipse this year and all my Asian friends (whether from Canada, Australia, or Asia) seemed edgy about it.
Is durian really an aphrodisiac?
If I eat a thousand-year-old egg will a therapod dinosaur germinate and burst through my stomach, a la Alien?
EDIT: 9 out of 18 on the test. I am OK! You are OK!

There are plenty of exceptions to the one child policy. Number one being it isn't illiegal to have more than one but there are penalities in place if you do. The key factor is if you have the dough and the quanxi then the penalities don't mean much. Same old story no matter what system is in place--The rich don't get treated the same as we normal folks do.
