Was this after about 12 cocktails? I don't dispute they may have/are shopping him but buying him out would be absolutely ludicrous.

I think Duha flat out lied to you bro. He probably said that to see if his ''rumour'' ended on CP.

Once all D are healthy the blueline is extremely deep and expensive. Either Engellend or Smid will be the 7th guy.

Gio ($4M) Brodie ($4.65M)
Russell ($2.6M) Hamilton ($5.75M)
Smid ($3.5M) Wideman ($5.25M)
Engellend ($2.9M)

7 Dmen making $28.65 with only the cheapest guy being a pending free agent and Gio jumping in salary more than what Russell makes today. Flames likely have more than 1 Dman they can part with

Does anyone in the league have the cap space for a ready-made Russell Wideman pairing?
Edit : Answered my own question. Arizona and Carolina are the only one's that can pull a deal like that and could actually use them.
Double Edit : Yeah, I would do those two for an expiring JM Liles and Trevor Carrick from the Hurricanes. Sound good?

And yet they gave him an A?
That doesn't make sense.

The GM doesn't give players A's.

So there is no communication between the coaches and GM on who will be the captains and alternates?

maybe he's splitting the A with Moneyhands so that when he's traded it's an easy 'full A' transition

Why would the GM be involved in that? The coaches and players are the ones who are around each other all day and see the leadership in one another.

The only way I'd believe Duha said that is if he started the conversation with a 10 minute gush fest about Jimmy Buffet.

True, the GM doesn't give players A's… but if the coach thinks a player is good enough to be wearing an A, that's usually a sign that the team is not desperate to get rid of that player. One would think the GM at least occasionally pays attention to the coach's opinion of his players.

Good enough? It's about leadership. There are some pretty crappy assistant captains. Just saying..

It doesn't mean wideman isn't being shopped

No, but again: Would they give him an A if they were desperate to get rid of him?

Or give him an A and then buy him out like that dumbass rumor.

Firstly, buying Wideman out doesn't make intuitive sense given the current circumstances. A trade or waiver would do the job. Secondly, if Brad wanted to buy him out, why in God's name would he leak that information to anyone but Brian?

Finally, why "get rid" of Wideman? He is a contributing member of this team and I do believe that with some of the older contracts coming off (Jones, Raymond, Ramo, Hiller) a true cap Wizard GM can afford to keep Wideman plus the other core pieces.
