Why even play the season and playoffs, just hand it to these champions now. All that sucking has somehow produced a super team. Don't even bother showing up NHL teams, Edmonton wins.

Haha, I initially thought someone bumped a thread from 3 years ago. This is a great example of those not learning about history being destined to repeat it.
One of the best things about the past season is that the Flames' success and Oilers' failure caused many NHL pundits to re-evaluate the best way to build a championship team. The Oilers were no longer a future cup winner but instead a deeply flawed team.
Of course after another 1st overall people like MacLean are drinking the Kool-Aid again. I look forward to him inevitably being proven wrong.

I hate to say it, but I think he's right. All someone has to do is lower the GM and difficulty levels so they can make some great trades and then just walk over everyone. I really didn't think Ron was that big into NHL 2016.

a couple years ago, didn't someone make a video (like the Hamilton trade video) about the oilers winning? I'm sure you wouldn't have to change it much to fit this year and the next few years for that matter.
Thought I found it

I really hope this is the Flames decade to edge the Oilers. A total payback from the 80's, both teams really good and having to beat each other for a chance at the cup. Thus time it goes 4 cups 2 calgary and 1 to Edmonton. Yes I know I'd prefer none to Edmonton but....

It is far more likely that EDM will not have made the playoffs in 4 years than they will win the Cup.

Exactly. There's still a fair possibility they don't even make the playoffs in that period as it took the Jets years to finally get into the playoffs and by the time they finally made it they actually had to move out what was once viewed as their franchise player.

About to make a big comeback. And won't we look foolish when he ends up retiring with 600 goals/1300 points.

I think you are wrong.
If the past decade has taught us anything, it is that it takes a good deal more than a great player to win a Stanley Cup. The best teams over the course of that time have won on exceptional balance and coaching.
The Oilers still look to be a team with gaping holes throughout the lineup, and especially on defence. McDavid will make the Oilers better offensively—maybe even get them to a league average level of goal production—but they will never win anything with their current collection of defensemen and defence prospects.

He was playing against children.
Wait until he plays one game against adults before calling him some sort of God.

With the much needed house cleaning in the front office, McDavid getting his bearings in the NHL and the new building opening in 2016, I'd say they are certainly on the right track to make the playoffs in the next 2-4 years.
But this is the Oiler's after all, they'll find someway to mess this up.

They're going to have to celebrate a decade without playoffs before going anywhere. Let's see how that ends up going down with their fans and admirers. Amazing that an organization so undeniably bad always has people singing its praises in the middle of summer.
