The POV from both is that the Flames weren't going to beat the Ducks, so they should have sat Sam after the first 2 games.

WTF?

What message does that send your team if you did that? How do you basically admit defeat? How do you preach always earned never given, but when it is earned you take it away?

What an absurd pile of nonsense.

To quote Dennis Green (I think) YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME.
I heard that and every argument made by those two was ridiculous. Especially Dowbiggen. Pinder I guess was trying to back him up but Dowbiggen couldn't have been more wrong.

His point was in 2 years when they need an extra player to push them over the hump they won't have the ability because Monahan/Gaudreau/Bennett will all be making big bucks. But it was ok to sign Gaudreau cuz we're a small western Canadian city and the NE American boy needed an incentive. He fails to realize if Monahan/Gaudreau/Bennett are all making big bucks that means all are very good players and you only need secondary players to surround them, not hard to do.

He kept on going on about how it was an emotional decision by the management to please the fans. To that I say what a f'n ###### he is. All the moves mades by this management, they haven't really shown any emotions. Like Herm said, you play to win the game.

He could've maaaaaybe had a point with Bennet but hell we were in the playoffs, you never know what can happen. But when said he had a bigger beef with playing Monahan the year before his credibility whent into minuses. Heck game 5 we were up 2-1 going into the 3rd. Ducks won in it OT. Game 4 we were tied after 2 periods. They gotta bounce then scored an EN. As bad as we played couple bounces and this series could've gone 7 games and that's why you play your best players.

I cannot believe that guy gets paid to say the BS he was spewing.

That is a pile of nonsense and revisionist history.

Let's be honest. This city had not had playoff hockey for a long time. Making the playoffs and winning a round was important to everyone, from the fans, coaches, young players, management through to Murray Edwards.

I was thinking this summer that it was too bad they burned a year off of Johnny's ELC but presumably that was one of the leverage points in getting him to turn pro. I am rather happy he is playing for us.

It is true the flames are in a bit of a pickle salary cap wise but ultimately that will be because certain players are earning more than they are worth. Not because we iced the best team we could.

The problem with the discussion was that there was no counterpoint. The basics of talk radio is conflict - and normally on the show Pinder serves the role of the guy take the opposite view to the consensus. He does it well.
But that's also Bruce's approach. He looks at what is widely believed and then takes a stance that is opposite to that.
So you had two guys doing that.

Bad radio. Badio.

What's this, I thought most here wanted to have our prospects to over ripe in the minors like Detroit? I've argued that when a player is ready you move him on so that he is challenged. Staying an extra year in junior would be like staying an extra year in high school when it isn't needed. You pick up bad habits.

This philosophy is what makes Kylington's situation interesting. Skillwise he's probably ready for the pros but game maturity wise, he's probably not. At least with him, I don't see us burning a year of his contract.

In what world was Monahan rushed into the league. How could you ever make that argument given how his sophomore season went. Wow
