I have a hard time believing he still can't be a useful complimentary player somewhere. Not in Calgary though, I agree.

I'm sure he will find work as right now there's probably posturing between his agent and interested teams. Teams are willing to wait out Tier 2 free agents as I'm sure teams have kicked the tires on Franzen but are simply waiting for his demands to fall in line with what they want to pay. They will find work and it's just a matter of the player accepting one year deals or longer term contracts for less money than they originally envisioned.

Honestly? Yes. Frequently a healthy scratch.
Put lightly, it was pretty much the worst possible contract year a UFA could have had.

If nothing else, he'll get a Setoguchi type contract from a desperate team around training camp time.

I am not too sure of that. The way the free agent market is going, Glencross might have to attend a camp on a tryout without a contract.

No way Glencross saw this happening when last season started. He was probably thinking about getting a $3.5-$5M per contract on a 3-5 year term. I think he lands in Toronto or Edmonton

Not a chance IMO. He will get a deal...its merely how long and for how much. GM's aren't going to completely ignore his resume because of one bad year last season.
He can still fly and even last year was near a 40+ pt. pace which is below his career average. Defensively he has always been very good as well.
Bingo might have it nailed....a 2 year deal for 4 million or so may be what he settles on unless he thinks its worth it to try a one year "show me" deal with someone.

I thought he had an okay season in Calgary. In Washington not so much. I think he scored a couple of important goals in the playoffs but he also had some bad brain farts. One game he's coming out of his zone on LW and tries a cross ice pass directly onto the stick of an opposition player who went in to score the winning goal. I've never seen him do anything quite so bad before. Maybe Washington just wasn't a fit and he wasn't comfortable but man that's got to lower his price.

You know which it is. No one is offering him $4 a year.

A guy that could thrill you with his skill, and frustrate you with his laziness. To me a perfect 3rd line guy when he was engaged. Otherwise, not worth nearly the $$$ he thinks he is. All the best Scoreface!

Glencross is a lazy player. His days of doing the digging in the corners and hard on the forecheck are WAY gone.
He is worth 2 million per. Anything more than that is a waste. If he didnt have such a bad attitude, it would have worked out for him in Calgary. His Ego got in the way. You did not have to be in the dressing room to know it either.

I would imagine the Flames made him some kind of offer during the season. Wonder what he turned down, only to end up in this current situation?
I wish Glencross all the best but that trade simply looks brilliant.

It must have been his lazy play, bad attitude and his gettin in the way ego that got him a letter.
When he was traded he was 5th in points among Flames forwards. Including 1 big GWG. Hell, he finished the season 6th in points among Flames forwards. He still knew how to do some things right.
The only thing he did wrong was celebrate his 30th birthday.
And as for all the things some of you guys think you know about him. You DO HAVE to be in the dressing room to know.

I could see him having a bounceback year. He plays better when he's got a chip on his shoulder and something to prove. If he gets back to basics -- skating, forechecking, hitting, and generally being a tough mofo to play against, the goals will come.
When he floats looking to score goals and make pretty plays, that's when he gets lazy and ineffective. We saw it firsthand for the last year or two, and it sounds like it got even worse in Washington. A splash of cold reality might actually help his game next season.

If the Flames didn't have 20 forwards, I wouldn't mind having him back on a 1 year deal for less than 2 million and hope that he comes in motivated for a good bounce back season.

The only way oiler fans get disappointed is if the end up with a pick outside of the top 10.
I could see him going somewhere where he could just do his own thing and not have to be a leader. On a deep team he'd be a pretty decent third line guy, the only issue with that is that he spent too long on a bad Flames team and was top 5 in scoring and now thinks he's a finesse player. I think that's why his ego is the way it is. He was a big fish in a pond but got to thinking he was a big fish in the ocean. If he starts to realize what his actual place in the league is, he may bounce back but he has to realize he's now a third line player.

I don't think analytics have done him any favours
That screams of a guy that has had a high shooting percentage but is getting worked all over the ice.
3rd line player, and not a great one at that
