Getting this kind of play from a 6th round pick has sure been a blast to follow this year. Cannot wait to see how he does when he goes pro.

I know nothing about the etymology; I just hope he scrounges up a lot of goals for the Flames.

I take it you haven't watched Mangiapane all that much. He certainly doesn't play "small".

This guy honestly does not look all that "small" to me. I think it's just his 13 year old face, which gives people that impression.

When you see Johnny Hockey in an interview, he looks like a small person. This guy looks like a believable 180+lbs. That's not tiny for a 20 year old. If he comes into the league at 190lbs and 5'9-10'', I'd put him more in the Bennett than the Gaudreau sized category.

His game also looks a lot more similar to Bennett, in that he drives into his checkers as opposed to just evading them.

Burke said he's probably 20 lbs heavier right now than Little Johnny

I spoke with him last July and he is quite a bit bigger than Gaudreau. He wasn't far off Hudler in terms of height and overall size, just a bit thinner. Once Eat Bread gains 15 lbs of muscle as he moves forward to fill out properly, he'll be fine.

I was talking about his size, not the way he plays.
I love how he plays hard but when management keeps talking about getting bigger, I get the impression they want players over 6 feet 210lbs.

They do, but not necessarily every player, especially one like Mangiapane who plays the 'Burke'way. if he turns into a player he makes Shinkaruk trade fodder though.

I have no idea how you manufacture this over-dramatic concern when the entire reason I bumped this thread was because Burke (management) went out of his way during his "black and blue" conversation to bring up Mangiapane and sing his praises. He was the only player brought up specifically and Burke was raving about him.

I'm far from being dramatic or concerned...it's just you don't see that many 5'10 players on "teams that Burkie raves about (Anaheim/L.A.).

about
Teams Burke raves about (or more specifically accuses of ripping off his 2007 Ducks) - Blues, Ducks, Kings, his 07 Ducks, his Leafs right before he got fired, and 2011-13 Bruins have had on roster

Andrew Cogliano
Mike Richards
Andy McDonald
John-Michael Liles
Todd Marchant
Jaden Schwartz
Sami Vatanen
Robby Fabbri
Brad Marchand
Torey Krug
Ryan Spooner

Was there three or more shorter players on any one of those teams? Right now we've got two with Gaudreau and Shinkaruk, adding Mangiapane would make it three.

Shinkaruk is far from a guarantee to make next years team.

Same goes for Mangiapane.
My point is there's only so many spots for small guys on Burke type teams. I personally don't agree with this, as I'd rather have skill and/or a high compete level all down the lines no matter what the size the players are.
