Hudler's acceptance speech was the best thing about last night. Happy he is on our team, and perhaps some explanation of why he is more valuable to the Flames than trading for future assets. Clearly he has had some positive impact on the younger players, and we have seen clear examples of how young players can go south without a number of good role models around them.
After last night, I feel better about the possibility of Hudler re-signing with the Flames at the end of 2015/16 (assuming he doesn't get traded). Yeah, he's going to command big dollars and probably some term as well, but as long as the Flames are close I can see him taking a bit less in order to stay here.

I was never concerned about his desire to stay, it's the term he's going to want. After playing the best hockey of his life, Hudler would be a fool not to cash in for at least 4 years. While I don't doubt he might take a little less to stay here, I just don't think Hudlers need to cash in (which he should) and the Flames life cycle are going to align. He's going to 35 probably when this team is a true contender, and we can't have him at 35 taking up serious cap space on a contending that at that time would already have had to extend the young core.
Nothing against Hudler, he's really won me over, but I just can't see a situation where he's a Flame after next season unless he ####s the bed this upcoming season. And I don't like the thought of losing him for nothing after next year either.
2) He is 31. I would expect that he will have a similar year this year to what he posted last year. However, his production is going to decline. Whether it's next year, or 2 or 3 years from now, Hudler is not going to continue to put up 60+ points every year.
These comments are starting to annoy me.
1 season is 82 games of hockey.
3 seasons is 246 games of hockey.
In Hudlers case the difference between 1 and 3 seasons could be the difference between a really bright flash in a pan and potentially turning him into a top 15 all time scorer for the Flames.
Please do not discuss them as if there was no difference between the two.
The original pigeon think came about when Claude Giroux chirped (sorry, bird pun) JVR, calling him a pigeon. I guess it's because JVR is known for garbage goals, and pigeons like to pick up scraps.

So according to Hudler, Johnnys go to meal after a game is slices of pepperoni pizza. There's an story of it from Gios Injury. Will try to post once in on computer
"I am actually more excited for the Oilers game tomorrow than the Flames game. I am praying for multiple jersey tosses. The Oilers are my new favourite team for all the wrong reasons. I hate them so much I love them."

best part of that clip is how excited Hudler was to have the picture taken with Mr. Lindsay and to introduce Johnny Hockey to Mr. Lindsay.
That's respect for the history of the game and surely taught in Detroit. Wasn't forced or contrived, but a genuine big brother aspect between Jiri and Johnny

Jiri Hudler wins the Lady Byng and Best Acceptance speech
Finally got a chance to watch this.
Comes across as a very genuine dude. Little strange he just rattled off a list with Feaster in the middle and no Burke.. Maybe a little sour grapes over the removal of the guy he feels built the team he loves/brought him in?
Or maybe Im just reaching as my judgement went out the window a few hours ago, switching to nights for the first time in a few months Monday so trying to get my schedule aligned haha.
