I'd drive in from out of province to see a parade/celebration at McMahon.

Congrats to the Hawks, they're a great team and their latest win was yet another impressive achievement for this recent incarnation of their team. I hope that we can celebrate with our team that way one day and it will come down to drafting and development. If last season was any indication, things for the club are heading in the right direction and I hope they continue that way.
Can't wait to see what happens this off season!!!!

I think you're kidding yourself. Flames fans/all the bandwagoners would fill up that stadium pretty quickly for a cup celebration no question. Offices would shut down for the morning or afternoon when it happened similar to being closed for the Stampede Parade.
Would be filled easily.
And no, it's not exactly central but it's not exactly that far away.

I had a buddy in school who always talked about how Versteeg (from Lethbridge) would bring his childhood friends along to celebrations and introduce them as members of the Blackhawks to girls they met.
Most of them didn't know the difference and it seemed to work.

in 04 they had over 30k in Olympic plaza. They couldn't fit anymore if they tried. I have no doubt that that if held at McMahon it would be filled.

You're actually more out to lunch with this post than anything else you've posted on CP, imo.
That shows an incredible lack of awareness for how big a deal a Stanley Cup victory would be in this city, an incredible lack. We have about 1.4 million people here, so we're not getting millions of people to a celebration like Chicago obviously, but to suggest 36000 people wouldn't show up to a cup celebration at McMahon? C'mon man, time to be real for second.
To put it into perspective, we LOST the Stanley Cup finals in '04 and 30k showed up at city hall to say thank you for the run, and you think timing or logistics would prevent 36k people gathering to celebrate a cup victory in this city?
A Flames Cup parade would attract hundreds of thousands, any celebration at any venue where the Flames players showed up would be sold out instantly.

You doubt Calgary would fill up McMahon, man I'm still upset you thought that. Like it actually bothers me. I know you were young in '04 but good lord, I don't think you have any grasp on how big a Cup win would be in Calgary or any Canadian city.

We're not talking a city full of people going "Well I guess I'll head down if they make it a central location and it doesn't interfere with anything else", we're talking hundreds of thousands of Calgarians completely and utterly soaked up in Flames Fever and following each other for the next place to go to celebrate the Cup win.
Like c'mon man, 36k in McMahon stadium for a speech? That would be as easy as 7-11 getting 10 customers before noon. Like it's not even a question, let alone something to doubt.

To put it in more perspective, Tampa held their "celebration" in their actual arena with 22k and they were mocked by Canadian fans for such a pitiful small celebration.
You put the players in McMahon and everyone would be racing to hopefully get in to be there for a chance to say they were there. Man alive, hockey in a Canadian city Polak, we're not talking Lacrosse here.

Did I just read that Polak thinks McMahon stadium wouldn't fill up if the Flames won the cup??
That's literally the funniest/most foolish thing I've read on this site in a while. That just made my night. Thanks for the free lol before I head out on a friday night!

Haha, annoyed not offended, offense isn't the correct term when people are annoyed at something, it's just one of the most incorrect things ever posted on CP. Wednesday at 2pm? If that's when the Flames chose to hold a Stanley Cup celebration, then yeah, it would be sold out, full stop.

I hope so. It would go like this;
"The Flames have announced that the Cup celebration will end at McMahon Stadium for a speech by the team"
*300k Calgarians, plus 50k out of towners "How the F do I secure a seat at McMahon!!! I need to be there, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity as a Flames fan!!!!!".

When the Flames win and if there's a celebration at McMahon, I can tell you that I'd fly back to Calgary just to participate in the celebration. Likely though I'd already be back watching the finals but yea, I'd be there. I'm sure McMahon would fill easily.
