Pretty obvious who the better players are now. Getzlaf and Perry have no excuses anymore. 8 years of decent teams and no playoff appearances. Blame the rest of the team all you want, but they didn't show up and neither did Kesler.
Didn't show up? Come on man. They were excellent players in the playoffs, as were the Ducks as well.

They just came up against a equally well built Hawks team who edged them in 7. "Not showing up" is reserved for guys who have no points and get swept.

Well, I think his point was that when the going got tough in games 6 and 7 Perry and Getzlaf absolutely did not show up whereas when the chips were down in games 6 and 7 Toews and Kane turned on God-Mode.

Therein lies the difference.

Getzlaf was sulking throughout game 7... no idea what was going on with him.

I think the Hawks got to him. He and Perry had their way with the Jets and Flames but the Hawks are a good possession team and they weren't giving the Ducks all cycle time in the opposition end and he was probably getting frustrated not being able to come up big for his team.

I like others don't like Kesler but IMO he was their best player at the end of the series as he created more offensively and was more effective than both Perry and Getzlaf. He did all he could and was let down by the first line not being able to elevate their game.

He was self admittedly "terrible" in game 6 and then had a horrible start to game 7. Kane/Captain Clutch were totally in his head.

It is interesting to see this thread play out because Kane and Toews did step up and answer this one pretty emphatically. Even with the increased cap hits next year moving forward....I'd still bank on the Hawks duo. They both seem to be in that top 1% in terms of ability to raise their game at key moments.

Its interesting having this discussion and the 'Dynasty' discussion simultaneously.

I think Kane and Toews have direly handcuffed their team with their cap hits moving forward, especially with the economic downturn and the drop in the Canadian dollar seriously affecting the league's revenues and ######ing any cap increases.

I predicted that the Hawks are going to go through a low patch for the next 2-3 years until the cap increases enough to surround them with a decent supporting cast again.

I'm not doubting Chicago's ability to draft and develop, just to pay.
