I realistically see Calgary as a legitimate playoff team in 2 or 3 years time, and I think Iggy is the type of player who will score 20 to 25 goals playing 2nd fiddle in his final year in the NHL. Iggy is a smart man. He won't walk into the room thinking he's the New Leader after signing a 1x1. He legitimately wouldn't even wear an 'A', and he knows that.
If the Flames go all the way how amazing would it be if we won the Cup with Iggy. Literally no one here is saying lets bring back the Iggy Days or they want Iggy to be the new leader. All the supporters here are saying is that it would be incredibly awesome for Iggy to sign a one year deal once we are a legitimate contender, or at least a regular playoff team. Nothing bad could come of it since he will still be in tremendous shape right up until retirement.
And if we don't end up winning it all, it will still be awesome to have Iggy do his final lap in a Flames uniform.
I really fail to see all the hate for this idea.

If he can still score 20-25 goals, do you think he wants to sign a 1 year, near league minimum contract just for nostalgic reasons when there is no guarantee he is going to win a cup? If he is still scoring 20-25 and anywhere near where he was last year, and another legit team offers him $12M over 3 years and the Flames offer him $1M over 1 year, I bet he picks the team that gives him money, term and still a chance, he takes the other team.
If he's a borderline turtle that nobody wants to give more than $1M over 1 year, that probably isn't a good reason we should sign him either.
