So we can totally discount your opinion on what has occurred on the "red mile" in the past.

You're making it sound like you know what's happening to every single woman on the Red Mile. There's a lot of people on there, that's a lot of people to keep track of.

It's a slippery slope. This is a word with legal consequences. Stigmatizing it as "sexual assault" or "tantamount to rape" would also probably help reduce instances of sleazy behaviour but it also tars people being idiots with the same brush as sex offenders, which is killing-a-mosquito-with-a-sledgehammer territory. The resulting wedge just alienates a bunch of people who fundamentally agree with your position.
Melodrama and hyperbole are being used way too often these days to deal with social justice issues and it actually hampers what should be a pretty easy discussion to have. Most people aren't jerks, even if they occasionaly do something that might be jerk-like behaviour, and if a relatively level-headed discussion can be had, I think we'll discover that everyone's pretty much on board with this behaviour being generally unacceptable.

a. Drunk guys don't think it through.
b. A groper in a crowd probably wouldn't be ID'd anyway. Grope and run.
c. Half the crowd thinks it's a free for all because of the flash.
d. The girl probably doesn't scream - she is too busy being mortified or doesn't want a scene, or is drunk herself.
|
You guys acting like the red mile is full of rapists. Jesus.
Groping and running is seriously ####ed up and if it was an actual thing that happened on the Red Mile, I doubt that there would be thousands of girls flocking to party with everyone there.
What is this world coming to where we can't even gather in one area to party after a Flames win without every one being labelled potential rapists.

My read of the quoted portion of the article was that it stuck with her from 2004, not that it happened this year.

Bottom line: Female Flames fans deserve the respect to be out partying or celebrating without the spectre of a troop of men jeering them to take their clothes off.

Who are you even arguing with? Who is labelling everyone a rapist? Do you even know your point?

So far your defenses have been:
A) doesn't happen
B) If it does is the girls fault
C) There's other bad things that happen
And now C) Well why don't we ban alcohol
I'll stay away from insulting, but your positions are both ridiculous and childish

Actually I don't think the red mile is "full of rapists". What I think is that your theory of why it can't happen is unrealistic and naive.
All I have said is that groping happens, including on the red mile. It's documented. Whether I see one tonight or not is pretty irrelevant, as is the argument of anyone saying "well I've never seen it".

Don't be a ######. Don't chant for girls to flash this playoff run. Shame men who do, and report anything serious that you see.

First of all i have not used the term rape, but i will say that I can see groping as falling under sexual assault.
I don't view the creation of an enviroment that is only inclusive to half of the popluace as a small matter. The public should be able to attend these types of gatherings, hell go anywhere, without fear of safety.
