I think you might have missed the point made in the quote. They're saying that Western conference teams that have already clinched their playoff spots could be interested in "helping" Calgary make the playoffs over LA by playing their backup goalies against us during this last stretch, just like Nashville did today, because they'd rather have Calgary than LA as a potential playoff opponent. Will see who's going to be in goal for St.Louis. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Blues lose to us next Thursday.

I don't buy this logic. The Blues especially are in a dogfight for first in their division and avoiding a first round with Chicago (or worse, Minnesota). Can't see them risking the division.

That would-be penalty on Stajan might be the worst call I've seen this year. The only explanation is game management, and it worked.

Unfortunately the Oilers have been so bad for so long that the only posters left over there are of the full-blown delusional variety.

Western Conferences teams would prefer to play the Flames with the 3rd best record against Western opponents after Nashville and Anaheim instead of middle-of-the-pack L.A.?

Tonight was clearly a team with a clinched playoff berth resting their starter on the 2nd night of back-to-backs, no need to dig out the tin-foil.

Hate the Kings but you can't be serious. No one wants to play the Kings in the playoffs, they've known to be a different beast come playoffs. Most would easily prefer the Flames given the choice between any team.

This. It's absolutely amazing how well the Flames have played against the west this year, but I'm guessing if you polled every playoff team and told them they could have Calgary or LA in round 1, they would all rather play the Flames.

The amount of experience the Kings have and the way they turn things up in the playoffs is on another level. We're talking about a team that has won the cup two out of the last three years...

If the question is would a given team rather play the Flames or the Kings, well obviously there is no debate, but they are not throwing games to try and influence it. No way.

i would like to bring this to the attention of the group

Los Angeles Kings Playoff Chances
Did not play, playoff odds down 0.4 to 69.3%

Winnipeg Jets Playoff Chances
Lost to Chicago 3-4, playoff odds down 17.8 to 62.3%

Calgary Flames Playoff Chances
Beat Nashville 5-2, playoff odds up 19.4 to 71.1%

A big win and some rare help on the OOT Scoreboard and we are back!!

Oh no I'm not saying that at all. Sorry, I didn't read the entire thread above.

Out of curiosity because I've been seeing these updated odds every day, what are all the factors that play into them? I assume strength of schedule among other things?

very rarely have the flames gotten a backup this season...Vancouver always gets them because they are ALWAYS on the 2nd half of a back to back

How many games was it again that Vancouver plays a team on night two of back to backs? Wasn't it like 25 or something...?

I think it was 25% of their home games or something which is absolutely crazy, hoping some teams complained

No, it was 19 games total, which is almost 25% of their entire schedule

I bet its another 25-35% against teams playing their 3rd game in 4 nights.

Ok just looked it up, they play 19 times against teams on the second night of the oppositions back to backs.

They also only have ten b2b's themselves.
