All I said was I've stopped going crazy about these free agent pick ups. I then repeated that this wasn't a bad pick up, just not getting overly excited about it.
MOD EDIT: Don't be crude.

I don't know why people would get overly high/low about a college UFA. It's found money at best, organizational depth at worst.

Basically, it's a free asset that has upside in an area that we need (defense, especially RHD)
Nothing to complain about that I can see.

+1 at worst, he could be an improvement over Ramage on the farm team and makes them better.

Yeah, but I think the distinction with guys like Morrison (and Jooris, etc) is that they went completely undrafted, while Knight was initially drafted.

Dekeyser was an undrafted defenseman who played three years for the Western Michigan University as well before signing at 23 with an NHL team. He's playing 20+ minutes a night and has 25 points for the playoff bound Redwings.
Dekeyser:
2010-11 Western Michigan University CCHA 42 5 12 17 43
2011-12 Western Michigan University CCHA 41 5 12 17 42
2012-13 Western Michigan University CCHA 35 2 13 15 22
Morrison:
2012-13 Western Michigan University CCHA 38 7 13 20 32
2013-14 Western Michigan University NCHC 40 4 15 19 83
2014-15 Western Michigan University NCHC 37 5 10 15 36

So basically what you're saying is...
He's a Dekeyser
I'll take that any day, Dekeyser has gotten a lot of praise in Detroit this season and he's only going to get better

That doesn't seem too bad, why not give him a shot. A RH shot and a late bloomer, definitely sign him. I wonder if they do sign him where he goes or if he plays any games.

I expect he will sign for rookie max and want to burn year one of ELC.
Player holds all the cards in situations like this

Friedman on 960 just said that the Flames are on the top or near the top of Morrison's list.
He also said he is not as good a prospect as Dekeyser.
Also mentioned that the college UFA market is not that great this year.

Just my speculation, but probably why the Flames are reportedly close to signing Morrison is that they told him that he could potentially earn a top 6 spot for the rest of the season.

Too bad playoffs aren't an option, neither is the AHL IIRC based on Van Brabant last year.

What is the rule? Dekeyser played 11 regular season games, NHL playoffs and AHL playoffs immediately after signing with the Wings

Without getting into the depth of the legalities of the CBA, it was due to the trade deadline.
Dekeyser signed in the lockout year which had a late trade deadline because of the shortened season. He signed before the trade deadline that year.
In a normal season the trade deadline occurs before the end of the NCAA season, meaning all of the college free agents who sign NHL contracts for this season after the trade deadline are ineligible to be sent down via the rules for loaning players in the CBA.
