Man this thread is giving me the chills reading it. What a great time to be in my early 20s and partying down on 17th ave after every game. I remeber the atmosphere was so great and everyone was high fiving each other and there were zero fights despite everyone being hammered.
Maybe it was just the weather yesterday, but I saw a few more Flames hats/shirts/etc during the day then I typically recall seeing the last few years. Feels like things are starting to bubble under the surface a bit.
A lot of Dads including me were wearing Flames jerseys on the weekend at Minor Hockey playoff games.

The daycare centre used to be Coconut Joes, which was probably the most notorious of the bars on that strip. People either loved or hated Coconut Joes.
It always makes me laugh when I drive by there and see that little playground out front and think about how many children were conceived because their parents met grinding on the dance floor there (of course, it's been closed long enough that those kids probably have kids at that daycare).

Electric Avenue: An Infamous Chapter in Calgary’s Partying History
I'll never forget Gelinas scoring that OT goal against Detroit. I was up high in the upper bowl and the building went off, sounded like a jet engine. The noise level was insane and it maintained as we all walked through the concourse and out of the dome onto 17th Ave.
I distinctly remember I had to walk 4 blocks away from 17th through Bankview before the noise finally subsided and I could hear the ringing in my ears.
Great thread...so many memories. Driving home after they beat Vancouver in Game 6 and honking/hanging out my car window screaming, nearly getting kicked out of Game 3 for being just gooned and making fun of anyone wearing a Canucks jersey, the Red Mile in Rd 1+2 (went full creep later on), the city was electric.
The only thing that compares was being in Vanc. for the 2010 hockey games and watching the gold medal game. It was a tad better simply because Canada won. Had they actually reviewed that goal in Game 6 who knows...
The Quest stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little, and it will fail, to the ruin of all. Yet hope remains while the Company is true. Go Flames Go!
I know flames central is basically a concert venue now days. But that could easily be a rally point, then with Stephen avenue already designed as a walking avenue could fill with fans. That National rooftop patio above scotiabank would be awesome to use. Olympic plaza for the screen viewing party. Telus convention center for a beer gardens!?

Lot of damn fun.
Was also at that game in the upper bowl. I was 15 at the time. The whole stadium in silence for what seemed like forever as the puck squirted out from underneath Cujo and onto Gelinas stick. And then the explosion of cheers. I've never been a part of something like that before or since. Will remember it forever.
With all the many drunken night's since, this sober game is still my favorite Flames experience.

I was at that game too but I was alone! A lone 9th grader watching the game.
My dumb friend convinced me that if I could get even get a single ticket he knew of a way to sneak us into the game. Of course he was wrong so when I managed to get a ticket and I asked him how we're going to do it, he couldn't actually come up with a plan so I had to decide if I'm going to go or if I'm going to sell the ticket. Happily, I decided to go and it was totally worth it!
Too bad I was 13 years old so I went straight from the game to my mom who was waiting in the parking lot for me and got a ride home. Oh man I can only imagine if I was the age I am now.
Side note: Did anybody meet their future significant other during the lockout right after this like myself? My wife and I met right after the red mile and since there was no hockey our first year of dating, she really didn't know what she was getting in to lol
Wow that still gets me emotional to see the video, hear the Foo fighters track; which I always associate with that run.
I think perhaps that is why this current team is so popular. Like the 04 squad they're a team that refuses to settle for the position that pundits and the rest of the league have written them off as. They play as a team, fight for each-other, all the things the run had.
the popularity of the playoffs and the hype will also be dictated by how far they go. It's like wave that builds. Pretty fitting for a C of Red.

I recall watching the first period of Game 1 vs. Detroit and then having to rush off to write an evening exam in the Red Gym at U of C. Hard to concentrate, as you might imagine. But then about an hour in, a magnificent din of car horns could be heard sounding from the parking lot.
I think that game was one when things really started picking up around town. I, and I think a lot of people, were just hoping against hope that we wouldn't get swept by Vancouver in the first round. We took it to game seven? A nice bonus. We beat them in OT? Pinch me. Round 2? Total gravy. But we beat Detroit in Detroit? OK, something's happening here...
