I don't think he was trying to take anything away from Gaudreau but rather just stating what an unbelievable pick Palat was. To get a guy who has produced like he has the past two seasons in the 7th round is quite an achievement.

That was part of the charm of Iggy. Always had time for fans, for media, etc. You always here stories of Iggy being nice to people randomly in public. As far as I know, he married his highschool sweetheart, correct? I would chalk that up to him not letting the money get to his head.

I am really glad that the Flames place such an emphasis on character. It is great when you are able to cheer on a player on your team who is both really good at the game, and seemingly really good at being a human being.
I look at the Blackhawks and their crap at times. When Morrison was hurt and trying to get off the ice and Thornton when he was bleeding had a few players shouting out stupid stuff at them, the rumored slur at Iginla during a playoff game, the Kane taxi and college crap.. I loved Fleury incredibly until I started seeing all the selfishness and crap he was doing, and found it hard to keep cheering him on.
It just feels great that the Flames have guys like Monahan, Gaudreau and Brodie thus far having a huge impact on the ice, and guys that are legitimate role-models that kids can look up to and try to mirror. I don't just love the Flames because they are exceeding my expectations or are just fun to watch on the ice. I love them because what is there not to love about them?

An article on nhl.com by Dan Rosen has a bunch of questions with his answers to them.
He figures the Flames and Wild will get in as a Wild Card Team.
His last piece is about the Rookie scoring race and he thinks Johnny Hockey will win.

Sure enough..

You sure about that? This article says otherwise.

Agree with all of this. Even a guy like Gratts who fell into alcohol abuse came out of it and turned into a role model for the young players and fans alike. So much to like about this club.

Can he hit 23 to beat out Monahan from last year?
So do we change this thread to 25-40 now?

Anyone else enjoying this season too much to even rub it in the faces of acquaintances (surely not friends) who cheer for the Other Guys? Honestly too much positivity imo to even burn energy/time focusing on that atrocity. Their fans may finally be humbled too.. The only things I've heard are hollow jabs that don't land about our season being over without Gio, or that Johnny is a one-and-done player ("Look at Eberle" was actually used ... !)
To think we have the same type of excitement AND production as last year with Monahan, stacked with the near concrete possibility of a threepeat next year is almost too much.
As far as Johnny goes, my favorite part of all of this is that even those who reached outside of the box beyond size for near guaranteed reasons to fail, like the extended season or his moves/shiftiness being offset by bigger faster and more skilled NHL defenders.. Better decide soon whether they want to dig deeper or jump on the bandwagon now. Amazing 4th round selection

For me, he still has 2 totals to chase.
First is hitting 40 assists(sits at 38), something no rookie has been able to do since Kane and Backstrom did it in 07-08.
Second is reaching and then passing 63 points(sits at 60), again something no rookie has managed since the 2 players already mentioned.
2 massive milestones which hopefully will really give him the edge in the eventual Calder discussion.
