Rider fan and yeah that was completely blown out of proportion....like you said, he didn't actually want the plane to crash, joking in the heat of a rivalry.

Like Kerr was talking about yesterday (quoting others)....people seem to need something to be outraged about all the time....like we can just say "well that was a dumb thing to say" and move on....have to turn it into something it really isn't.

Obviously he didn't want the plane to crash and the whole thing was overblown but to me it was illustrative of how bad on air he is. Classic case of trying too hard to be funny when you're not, and he pushed it to a place that was just weird. Which boomer does with regularity. The ad libbing to me is them struggling to fill airspace, which a good radio show can do quite easily. Other good radio shows like rome and Tim and Sid can talk about other things without it feeling disjointed and laboured. Their regular features like "clean it up" (blatant Come On Man ripoff) and the "they in....you innnnn?" bit makes me want to ram my head through the windshield.

Exactly. No different than the thread here regarding the Dallas Stars radio hosts comments regarding the Sedins. I just don't know why people get so consumed with having to be outraged about something. Life is short and I don't get why some people feel they need to manufacture negatives when there's plenty of negative stuff going on in the world as is.

Yeah...I may not like everything he does but he is not "bad on air"....guess I better add an IMO.

Especially when you are as insecure as the Riders fan base tends to be.

I, for one, will be very sad if Boomer goes... I think he's a nice blend of serious sports talk and stupidity

Not taking the bait Resolute lol. Can't argue it but I am not insecure about them....beer is still cold when they lose. I am way more invested in the Flames.

People who are not Rider fans seemed to be needlessly outraged over the Benn radio incident...that was the whole point of Kerr's talk yesterday.

Seems like a lot of folks need to chill a bit these days.....

Steinberg makes my skin crawl. I would tune out completely on the drive in if he was on. Overtime is awful, although I loved his "I'm a new condo owner" updates

I think we found the guy who called into the show to drop an f-bomb and say he wants Kerr back on the show.

It always amazes me how polarizing television and radio personalities are. I don't get the hate and angst for radio hosts that do a fairly good job day in and day out. Most people couldn't pull together enough content to fill 4 hours once, let alone on a daily basis.

but they are well seasoned experts on who is good and who is terrible.

This is all about opinion and preference on style and if somebody doesn't like a particular DJ's style then that DJ must obviously be terrible at his/her job.

I absolutely did not like Mike Richards after a while. Initially I did but I grew to hate listening to the morning show. Does that mean Richards was terrible at his job? Well, obviously not if he left for a big national gig with TSN. It just meant that I didn't like his style.

No I don't believe he actually wanted the plane to crash, but you just shouldn't be saying that stuff. Trust me, I can't stand Riders fans, but they had a good reason to be angry.

Rome is horrible. So glad they turfed his third hour on the Fan. I cannot understand how people listen to him, so much dead air on that show IMO it's the exact opposite of what you're saying, the entire show feels disjointed and laboured. To each their own!

I can understand how people may not like Jim Rome's style, I get it. But as a radio program it's infinitely better and more entertaining than any of our local shows. Some of that has to do with increased money and exposure but on a talent to talent level it's not close. Pausing for effect as Rome is prone to do is different than blathering on about Siri on your phone or singing along horribly to 80's music.

I don't want to come off like I have an irrational hatred of Boomer because I don't, as I said earlier I'm sure he's a nice guy. His talent level however is just not there. Unfortunately I don't think he'll go to Toronto because, among other reasons, he can't talk basketball or baseball at all. Calgarians may be happy to hear hockey talk all day and all year but you can't get by in TO without speaking to the Blue Jays and Raptors. It seems like Andrew Walker is getting squeezed out and I'm sure part of that is his lacking knowledge in anything besides hockey.

Sadly not me, but I've shared the same thought as Randy. Just never had the desire to call in and tell him.

Put me in the camp that quite likes Boomer and the current morning show. I only get to listen between 715-800am weekday mornings on the drive in but I'm glad I get to do that and wish I could listen longer. It will be a big loss if Boomer goes anywhere.

Rome is awful, not just style, but his content, and he has no substance. I particularly remember an interview he had with Patrick Roy, he asked two scripted questions, cut him off and went to a commercial. Came back with one more ("how does it feel to be...bla, bla..) and then ended it.

If Boomer had guests like Patrick Roy he would do a lot better, the fact is the only thing that keeps Rome afloat is the financial resources that the US radio networks have.

I like Rome but then again I try not to be overly critical of radio guys as the only radio host that really made me turn the channel was that loud mouth guy that you could hear when 960 was running Fox or CBS one weekends and late weeknights. I can't remember which station but this guy was in your face obnoxious and made me change the channel.

I have a feeling he is indeed moving on after a discussion I just had with someone who wouldn't necessarily know but could make a very educated guess.....I will be quite sad if it's true.
