Wow. Apparently he was serving a 31 year prison term, with no chance for parole until he's served 26 years (he would be 57 by then). California's death penalty was recently declared to be unconstitutional, so it really is not that surprising...

The Stampeders have released two players — national linebacker Yannick Carter and national offensive lineman Billy Peach. Carter played 24 games over two seasons with the Stamps and recorded 22 special-teams tackles. Peach dressed for three games in 2013 and spent the 2014 season on the practice roster.

Stamps become the Bo and Bro Show

Quote:
That first six-point collegiate collaboration remains a Mitchell clan chestnut, trotted out at family gatherings, block parties and the like back home in Katy, Tx.

“My junior year, I think it was,’’ repeats Bo Levi Mitchell. “I’d like to say against North Arizona, at their place.

“Anyway, it was a bad pass. I threw the ball at another receiver. Like I said, baaaaaaaad pass. And he still goes up and snags it for a touchdown.

“Makes for a pretty good story.’’

Hopefully it works out for both here!

Stamps Training Camp by Positions:

Stampeders lost a few players in the off-season and I think the position they got hurt the most was the Offensive Line but knowing Huff magic with filling up the rosters I think we won't even see the big difference this season. Receivers on the other hand will have lots of competitions.

Quarterbacks:
Returnees: Bo Levi Mitchell, Drew Tate, Bryant Moniz
Newcomers: Dominique Davis(played for Atlanta Falcons and was on Tennessee Titans and Indianapolis Colts team), Andrew Buckley(U of C).

Running Backs:
Returnees: Jon Cornish, Rob Cote, Matt Walter, Jock Sanders, Tim St.Pierre, Charlie Power.
Newcomers: Tony Harrison, William Langlais(2015 draftee) and Keith Toston(Riders)
Gone: Martell Mallett(released) and Hugh Charles(released).

Offensive Linemen:
Returnees: Dan Federkeil, Shane Bergman, Pierre Lavertu, Spencer Wilson, Brander Craighead, Brad Erdos, Edwin Harrison*
Newcomers: Karl Lavoie(1st round 2015 pick), Aaron Picton(2015 draftee), Paul Swiston(Winnipeg), Garry Williams*(Carolina-NFL), Adrian Ramsey*(Ball State)
Gone: Brett Jones(NY Giants), Stanley Bryant*(Winnipeg), Billy Peach(released)

RELEASED : Zebrie Sanders*, Rico Forbes*, Christian Johnson*

Receivers:
Returnees: Marquay McDaniel*, Jeff Fuller*, Eric Rogers*, Sederrick Cunningham*, Joe West*, Kamar Jorden*, Simon Charbonneau-Campeau, Anthony Parker.
Newcomers: Dan Buckner*(6.3-Ottawa), Lamar Durant(6.2-2015 Draftee-SFU),Derrick Joseph*(5.8-Washington(NFL)), Cory Mitchell*(6.3-Eastern Washington), Greg Wilson*(6.2-49ers, Denver), Nathan Slaughter*(Texas A&M)
Gone: Nik Lewis*(Montreal), Maurice Price*(Ottawa), Brad Sinopli(Ottawa), Chris Bauman(released)

RELEASED:Maudrecus Humphries*, Jabari Arthur

Defensive Linemen:
Returnees: Charleston Hughes*, Demonte Bolden*, Frank Beltre*, Freddie Bishop III*, Micah Johnson*, Corey Mace, Ben D'Aguilar, DeQuin Evans*, Junior Turner, Quinn Smith.
Newcomers: Eric Taylor*(BC), Brandon Boudreaux*(Saskatchewan), Derek Wiggan(2014 Draftee-Queens), Shomari Williams(Saskatchewan), Anthony Woodard*(Bethune-Cookman)
Gone: Shawn Lemon*(Pittsburgh)

RELEASED: Adrian Hamilton*

Linebackers:
Returnees: Juwan Simpson*, Deron Mayo*, Glenn Love*, Karl McCartney, Max Caron, Keon Raymond*
Newcomers: Jesper Simmons*(Ottawa), Tahj Jones*(LSU)
Gone: Yannick Carter(released)

RELEASED: Maleki Harris*, Brandon Harper*

Defensive Backs:
Returnees: Joshua Bell*, Fred Bennett*, Buddy Jackson*, Jamar Wall*, Brandon Smith*, Lin-J Shell*, Adam Berger, Jeff Hecht, Adam Thibault
Newcomers: Tevaughn Campbell(2015 Draftee-Regina), Dexter Janke(2015 Draftee-Okanagan), Royce Adams*, Joe Burnett*(Edmonton), Ciante Evans*(Nebraska)
Gone: Keenan MacDougall(Saskatchewan)

RELEASED: Trevor Coston*, Jeremy Williams*

Kickers/Long Snappers:
Returnees: K Rene Paredes, P Rob Maver, LS Tim St. Pierre and LS Randy Chevrier.
Newcomers: K/P Tyler Crapigna(2014 draftee-McMaster)

RELEASED : LS Kyle Teo

Notable newcomers:
LB Jesper Simmons - traded from Ottawa along with R Dan Buckner in the off-season for R Maurice Price. Simmons was Ottawa's nominee for Most Outstanding Player and Defensive Player last season. DB Joe Burnett a free-agent signing this off-season was a good DB and returner for Edmonton Eskimos last season. I am sure he will be able to help the Stamps defensively and on special team. DL Eric Taylor and LB Shomari Williams are both intriguing veterans. Williams didn't really developed as projected but I really feel he'll be a good addition for the Stamps. Losing C Brett Jones to NFL will hurt the Stamps a bit but they played Pierre Lavertu last season as a centre. Huff will probably try to develop Aaron Picton as a backup centre. Receiver position is going to be a good competition with Dan Buckner, Cory Mitchell, Greg Wilson and Derrick Joseph. Wilson and Joseph might not make it as a receiver but might have a chance to make the team as a returners. Joseph is being compared to Banks. He is 5'8" and a speedsters.

According to Huff, both of them are still injured and need some time to get to training camp.

Calgary Stampeders @calstampeders :
(1/2) Coach Huff on Mace & Johnson being on susp. list. "They need some time to get to training camp. We expect them further on" #StampsCamp

Calgary Stampeders @calstampeders
(2/2) Coach Huff: "Corey has a back issue and had a procedure done. He needs some time"

I guess they didn't do anything bad to get on suspended list.

Feel bad for Mallett and Hugh Charles, both stepped up very well while Cornish was down. But of course at that position the writing was on the wall, so it's not surprising.

Frankly I'd take either of them over Walter in a heartbeat, but of course that's where the NI status advantage comes in.
